    1st boy friend my daughter brought home I happened to be on the deck cleaning my shotgun. Turns out he was a real a**hole too.

    My eldest's husband met me for the first time while I was sitting at my brother's dining room table stripping and cleaning a Barrett M82A2.

    I looked up at him and casually said, "I can put 5 inside a 50 cent piece at 1 mile and you'd be dead before you heard the shot." and then went back to cleaning the bolt.

    I have since taken him shooting several times and we are going to be headed to Chicago this winter for a guys' weekend of steaks, cigars and Scotch. He just knows though, he hurts my kid, I hurt him.

    Amusingly, I have a colleague at work (Senior Director) who has a D.A.D.D. sign (just like the tee-shirt, only missing the graphic) on his office door :-)

    Oh man...my daughter is 14 and starting to get interested in boys. I've told her that I will have that....I've been to prison and ain't afraid to go back talk.....with the first boyfriend she has!

    I looked at my daughter's first serious boyfriend and said "I'm glad you're not over 6 1/2 feet tall". With a look of extreme curiosity on his face he asked why I was glad about that. My response "because if you hurt her and I have to kill you my truck bed is 6 1/2 feet long and it gets messy if I have to chop you in two to take you up to the timber and bury you". He was very respectful after that.

    It does not get any easier with the second one!

    My oldest is almost 3 and the younger is 5 months.

    However I have built a black powder rifle that has never been shot. I will have the conversation with any future boyfriends that I really want a reason to shoot it...

    LOL.....Being a father of 2 girls well into their 30's and seeing some of you who are just starting out with girls, my sympathy for the lot of you. When they start getting into the teenage years, expect to....

    Pull your hair out in clumps
    Be constantly broke
    Acquire a big distain for noise
    Wonder what you did to deserve the losers they bring home as boyfriends
    Restrain yourself from choking them on a daily basis
    Get used to wearing pink underwear, they always throw that one pink bra in the wash with your white shorts.
    Cry profusely when you discover they deem paying their inflated phone bill is more important than buying birth control pills
    Find yourself sitting alone in the lounger with the white noise on the TV, drooling out the side of your mouth
    Having thoughts of taking the wife and moving to a one bedroom condo in Florida
    Reading obituaries....wondering why your name isn't there yet.
    Then the grandkids come.....and it starts all over again.
