Looking into Subwoofer options and opinions wanted
Well this past weekend I went ahead and sold the VMPS 210 passive subwoofer I had been using. It was a great sub, but not the easiest to incorporate into my system.
I'm looking for a budget replacement for dual use in my 2ch and HT system. Looking for musical options along with best bang for my buck low HZ capabilities. I'm leaning towards the Polk 505 on sale at Newegg, but am also open to other options under $300 (I know it's not much) from Amazon or internet direct or used. In the future I'll be looking to upgrade to something such as a HSU VTF2 MK4 or SVS PC12 NSD but that is later not today.
For the following options I am looking for hands on experience or just opinion on positives or negatives compared to the Polk 505.
Local used option:
Klipsch KSW 12 $150
Amazon options w/ free 2nd day shipping:
BIC America F12 $182.27
JBL ES250 PBK $199.99
Dayton Audio Sub 1200 $129.00
Any thoughts besides I'm an idiot for selling the VMPS?

Check out the Boone area CL Travis, there was a sub on it for sale last week. I'm on the work computer so I can't view CL right now. Otherwise, I'd save up for a bit and try and snag a HSU STF-2, I'm sure they will go on sale soon as we have some holidays coming up. Good luck! If you ever want to hear my Outlaw I'm just down the mountain from ya'.

^ got pm, now I'm researching and tempted....
Dan- the Polk 550 is nice, but goes down to 30HZ at -3dB and the wireless kit is another 83.97 so getting past budget. Anyone use one of the Klipsch KSW series? I know they are overpriced new at bestbuy, but used on CL for around $125 might be ok for now.
rooftop is tempting me greatly with a HSU VTF 3r priced at my upper range if I stretch a bit...decisions2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer. -

If you can do the HSU, do it. Worth reaching a bit as its better than all the other subs we've suggested.
I didnt realize the wireless kit was extra (DOH!) my bad, but its at least an option later on...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
What are you using as fronts?
I've tried few subs with 2B's and big towers from other brands and the small ones didn't add much impact.

HT- for now have Phase Technology PC-100's ( soft dome tweet, 2 6 1/2 drivers, tower enclosure), but I also throw the monitor 7's, KLH 23's, and some Paradigm 3se into the mix occasionally. I never had the micro subwoofers so can't say how they work with big fronts but if getting regular ones, get at least 12" going down to around 23-25hz for movies.
My Energy e:XL-S8 sounds great for small room and moderate levels but when cranked, it can't keep up with the fronts.
That's when I bring the 500w Deftech 15" sub out.
Also, don't get a sub that just works with your existing fronts.
Get something that will work when you upgrade fronts, so get better one now.
BTW, just saw this Velodyne 10" wireless subwoofer for a great price of $159 free shipping...

Rooftop- Doing some research on this sub, I found this thread you started on CP awhile back....

Did you ever try to seal the sub, or get a response from HSU? Not a deal killer, just looking for an update to how things have worked since that time.

I was going to post to be patient and save up a little more given that you were starting with $300. There are SO many great used subs that pop up in the $300-$450 price range. Also, the DIY type could build an Dayton Audio RS sub w/ Dayton Passive Radiator, and a cheap Yung 200 watt amp for about $300 in parts plus the cost of wood to build the enclosure. Would probably sound better for ones 2 ch rig as well as HT that anything you can get for close to the price new.2.2 Office Setup | LG 29UB55 21:9 UltraWide | HP Probook 630 G8 | Dell Latitude | Cabasse Stream Amp 100 | Boston Acoustics VS 240 | AUDIORAX Desk Stands | Mirage Omni S8 sub1 | Mirage Omni S8 Sub2 -

Its actually just a lateral move at best to an SVS PB10-ISD (the older version). My HT is all stealth except for the sub, which is now an end table that the wife does not particularly like (our colors tend to be warm and romantic not dark old world). So the SVS is all front firing and will fit in our wall to wall custom built ins, and should provide about the same kick for the once-every-three-months I actually watch a movie :frown:

Given your budget, I think you'd do more harm than good to your lsim703's. Seriously. Friends don't let friends buy cheap subs. Cheap subs rarely reach lower (accurately) than a well designed monitor. TRUTH.
FWIW I also have always run a 2-channel/HT, and I am extremely anal about my 2-channel accuracy. It's difficult enough trying to get a good sub to play well with others.
