TSx550T or RTi A5
Hi
i need your help to choose between the two products.
I'm looking for speakers for listening music (80%) and watching the tv.
I'm listening Rock music and pop.
I have an amplifier for two channels : i will not connected a 5.1 (Marantz 6004)
what's the difference between the both ?
Thanks
Sylvain

RTi A5 !

Why ??? you test the both ?
Quality is better with A5 ? -
I haven't heard the TSX speaker, but have the RTI A5's. I personally like them for music, but again that is a personal preference. I would highly recommend adding a sub with these speakers, because the A5's start to struggle at lower freq.

I'm debating between both of them as well, and have listened to both quite a bit in the last couple of weeks. They both sound great but in different ways. The 550's to me sounded a bit warmer but not muddy, while the a5's (or in my case the previous version which is the RTI8's) are more clear but not harsh. The 550's are a bit bigger than the a5's but the a5's have a nice wood veneer. One question I have and will have answered next time I test them is how much power the receivers have that are driving them. That might make a difference on their performance. Anyway, I liked them both very much, and just so you have some reference, I played songs like Stairway to Heaven by Zep, Still Got the Blues by Gary Moore, Lust or Love by the Scorpions, Rock of Ages by Def Lep, and Sweet Home Alabama by Skynyrd, and they all sounded great on both speakers.

Thanks for your review.
I purchased yesterday the 550 with a PM 6004 marantz amplifier.
I will test then this week....
(I'm listening the same type of songs...) -
Cool. Please respond back with a review after you've listened to them a bit. I'll be purchasing probably after Thanksgiving (hoping for a nice sale).

for Black Friday ?
2 days ago, the 550 was more expensive than A5 on Polk website : arround 500$ -
They went down to $379 for a few days last week so I'm hoping they either go back down to that or a little lower...or, the RTI8's go down to a previous low of $134. Either way I win...it just means the difference between getting the surrounds and center right now. I really did like how those 550's sounded but that's a big difference in cost even on sale.

I am happy to wait until Thanksgiving, but wanted to know where to look to purchase A5s? The Polk Audio Ebay store has not had them for at least a month and NewEgg has not run any sale on them recently. Is there any other place that might have them at a discount?

The RTI8's are the same as the RTIa5's with a little design change. Polk Ebay have them at a good price and they'll end up being quite a bit cheaper then the A5's.

You may want to check Onecall for the A5's. Think I paid $600 for a pair, total/delivered, about 6 months ago. -
Where are you finding RTi A5s for sale at? I kinda gave up looking for them on Polk Direct a while back.
