I'm a big Forumla One fan, but I like all auto racing formats and what the Nascar higher ups are considering is crazy. The following is a petition for those who may be interested.

Political Correctness'.........defined

"A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a t-u-r-d by the clean end."

What are they planning to do exactly?

On a more positive note, hopefully we'll be getting Nascar HD soon with the recent announcement that TNT HD will launch in May.

They plan on having playoffs, like the NFL, NBA, etc.

Nascar is changing the way they determine the champion. The point system is the same with the exception the race winner will be getting more points. I believe 1st place will be getting 10 more points than what they got previously. This change is good but thats where it ends. After the 26th race a "playoff" will take place for the remaining 10 races. To qualify for the playoffs you have to be within so many points of the leader. Nascar is looking at between 300 and 600 points as the cutoff. So for example if its 600 and a driver has 601 they would not make it. Once the "playoff" starts everybody does not start at zero. The leader will have more points than 2nd, 2nd will have more than 3rd, and so on. At the moment it is unclear how many points the drivers in the "playoff" will start out with. As for the drivers not in the "playoff" it will be business as usual. Say 8 drivers make it than positions 9th through whatever will be up for grabs, their points will not change or start over with the the last 10 races. Bottom line is this is stupid. In a real playoff the teams that don't make it don't keep playing. Give more points to the race winner and leave it at that.

I can see why people consider it dumb, but I would be willing to see how it works for a couple years. It might be fun - who knows? Why all the boycott talk? The person in the petition sounded pretty effin crazed. He should get on Club Polk and talk politics! :)
