Knosti or spin clean, l' art du son or some other solution.

Looking to buy a manual cleaning machine, reviews i have read claimed the knosti brushes are camel hair or something like them, and gets into the grooves better, but the clamp allows a bit of solution to get to the label.

I will be using a dish drainer or some sort of blow drying if necessary to dry so included rack w. the knosti is not that important.

Also, the solution i mentioned has no alcohol, and is highly reviewed on some of the vinyl accessory and discussion forum.

it ought to be good, at 45 bucks for enough to make 5 liters.

One note, if you do buy this,dont store the mixed solution in a plastic container, apparently mold is activated by the plastic,only store in glass.

Any of your experiences will be welcome, and yes i know a 500 dollar auto machine with vac is better, unless you or obama want to spring for one for me it will remain a dream.

I cannot comment on the Knosti as I am not familiar with it. However, I bought a Spin Clean a few months ago and am quite happy with it. It does a good job cleaning vinyl. And I have never had a problem with the solution getting to the record labels on the Spin Clean. If you do get it, be sure to buy extra microfiber drying towels because the two or three small ones the Spin Clean comes with are a joke.

Been eyeing a Nagaoka CL1000 brush, anyone have any opinion on these ? They are a little pricey.

There is the $200 RCM minus the motor at Audio Advisor. The machine gets good reviews.

All that I have ever used is an Audioquest anti-static brush and a modelers detail brush for the stylus. I have never introduced any liquid medium to the grooves of my LP's.

Scott, Not sure if you are interested but I make my own solution, use a $29 modified shop vac, a free broken TT, $23 Nitty Gritty Nylon Bristle Brush, dish rack to clean my records. I have used this method for the last 3 years with no issues and great results. I have used a microscope to ensure there is no residue on the needle from the solution.

Here is the link but I did not make the TT box, I just use the plater to spin the record.

I use a Knosti & dont have that problem. It seems to work fine for me. There is lots out there available at decent prices & many solution methods too

I used a very similar set-up, works very well. Also had a Spin Clean, which was o.k. for cleaning, but it was like taking a bath in somebody else's dirty water for the last few records. I picked up a used VPI 16.5 for $300. The VPI really doesn't do a better job of cleaning, it just makes the process a whole lot easier.

Definitely come up with a vacuum solution of some sort, you need to get the dirt "out" of the vinyl, rubbing it back into the grooves with a cloth of any kind is counter productive in my mind.

I just cleaned a dozen lp's with the L'Art du Son and I'm very happy with the results. I only mix about 8-10 ounces at a time in a plastic squeeze bottle (I heat up the mixed solution in the microwave for a bit, to get it warm, but not hot) clean the record, then rinse with distilled water (will soon be getting some Ultra Pure water) and then placing lp's in the drying rack to let them air dry on their own.

I've used the distilled water and 90% alcohol with a drop or two of All Free&Clear detergent, I think the L'Art du Son is a much better solution, non alcohol.

Good luck, nothing quite as satisfying as the sound of a good, clean recording.

Spin Clean, for me. I bought the kit with a big bottle of solution and about eight drying rags.

I could use some advice also.I use the wide discwasher brush and the fluid and rags that comes w/ it. My question is when I do the application I do it on the tt w/ machine at 33rpm. Just curious if changing speeds would do any harm or get it done any really faster or deeper? After many applications so far I have had no problems, no sound differences detrementally and if and when a real filthy album came my way I do the Dawn and sink method.After the Dawn I rack and fan dry and w/ the brush and w/ the fluid it drys instantly and use quickly thereafter.
