I had a co-worker looking for a 60" last Black Friday and I turned him on to a great sale on the Vizio 60" at Walmart. For the money it was a nice set....several hundred cheaper than what he was looking at. Since then I have seen the 70" in person also. They seem to get good feedback and are a nice value. This new 80" seems like a better set....however it would be cool if they offered one without the added SMART features...some already have a network DVD, AVR, Apple TV, ROKU, etc.
At some point, an 80" is my next progression from my 73" Mitsu also....but I paid $650 for mine...so its such a great value right now given how much it would cost to to move to an LED.2.2 Office Setup | LG 29UB55 21:9 UltraWide | HP Probook 630 G8 | Dell Latitude | Cabasse Stream Amp 100 | Boston Acoustics VS 240 | AUDIORAX Desk Stands | Mirage Omni S8 sub1 | Mirage Omni S8 Sub2 -
If the Visio TV has good reviews, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one from Costco; They tack on another year of warranty past the factory!

I replaced my dlp mitsu with a vizio led 60 this year for the price it's a great picture. Just not amazing.

I've thought about what I'd get next, though that may be at least a year from now, if not longer. If I were to get something that big, I think I'd just go for a projector, and go even bigger. If you're going to go for big, you might as well go for big, right?

I think the problem with Vizio is that they haven't yet gotten the QC problems they had in the past off their backs. They may be OK now, but a lot of people remember their sets going "bad" and the terrible CS they had!
As far as newer tech. There are only a "limited" number of actual "manufacturers" of flat screens, parts, boards, etc. And EVERYONE uses pretty much those "same" suppliers including Vizio so it should come as no surprise that discerning huge differences in picture quality should be less and less possible as time passes.
Look at what the Xiaomi Mi3 is doing to both the iphone and Samsung phones in China. A competitor equal to, and in some instances a little better.

It maybe a nice looking set but try doing service on one as getting parts is a nightmare. Try telling a customer why they still don't have a set after it has sat in the shop for over a month waiting for a board only to have them send you the wrong one and have to start over again.
A warranty is useless if there service centers can't get the parts my friend had to deal with this day after day. Maybe they have gotten better with it but not with what I have seen so far.
With Samsung, LG, Sony it normally takes only a few days and the parts are in your hands and your back in the game.

This is not uncommon they are not making parts available for more then several months so depending on how the warranty is you may get a new set.Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.

Any produced will have some fallout and I am not saying that they are a bad set all j was saying was I have seen them take 5+ months to get parts and that is not the way a customer should ever be treated. Some parts are however quick to get so it can be luck of the draw.
It has been a gear or two sense I have looked into it so maybe they fixed the supply issues. Toshiba is far the worse I have ever seen had a set that was 7 months old the power supply board was beyond repair and they said the part was obsolete the guy that owned the set was very pissed.Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.

This was my observation about several LED sets....they just were not amazing. Only the top LED, and plasma sets looked great at a very heft price for 65" and above. Playing Blu-Ray, I actually like the picture of my DLP over some LED's....it looks more natural and film like.
Not a bad idea if you have a dedicated large room. I was actually going to keep my 50" and get a pull down screen for movies...but a 70"-80" give a multi use room the best of both worlds....Size and the ability to watch in the daylight.
Good point. I watch mostly movies, and much prefer plasma. I don't like the "soap opera" effect of led. That being said, I do watch a few sports - basketball, boxing, the Olymics... as well as well as the Oscars, etc., and I like the effect for this kind of viewing. Plus you make the valid point of being able to watch during they day.
I think the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016 will be awesome. Hmmm....How much lower do you suppose the prices of giant will LED's be in 2 1/2 years? -
A HUGE part of the problem with LED panels isn't the TVs themselves but the fact that they are calibrated from the factory to look good in brightly lit big box stores or member warehouses.
My 65" Vizio (I am a Vizio TV nut...have had 5 Vizio sets now with nothing but good experiences...except read below) was garishly bright once I got it home and set up. Everything was drastically oversaturated and I was Very disappointed in the out of the box picture.
But then, after 30 minutes of "quick" calibration, it looked like a brand new set. And then, my buddy brought his gear over from his shop to do a final calibration on it for me and even he thinks it was an amazing price/performance purchase and he is a Pioneer Elite/Panny dealer. For less than $1300, I have a TV I very much enjoy watching.
That being said, I did have one Vizio develop an issue...it was a 55" and it developed an audible hum from the power supply. Called Costco's Concierge service and 2 days later, 2 techs showed up and swapped the power supply on site. Never had another issue with it."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

The heck with Buy More, I'm going to get my next tv from Costco, thanks for the tip ZLTFUL !

The Vizio M series 80" inch is $3299.00 @Costco. Tied w SAMs club for cheapest price. That is after a six hundred dollar rebate. Costco doubles the factory one year warranty to two years just for buying it there. Plus you can extend it out another three years for a hundred dollars more. That's my plan if I go for it. Sale ends the 27th of October. Also right now you can get a free one year membership when you sign up for their credit card. Peace. We do an executive membership at Costco which pays cash back...our year end cash-back check has paid for our annual membership 5 years running and also gives us an extra $100 or so each year. Hehe. Yeah...we shop at Costco WAY too much."Some people find it easier to be conceited rather than correct."

Unfortunately, Amazon doesn't add an extra year to the warranty like Costco does...well worth the $1 price difference. hehe

I have a 70" and have been trying to figure out my next move. My only concern with an upgrade is 4k.
Most of the major manufacturers are bringing 4k sets to market. If 4k takes off (and I think that's a big "if"), your set may be obsolete in a year or two. I bought my Sharp almost exactly a year ago. They just released the 4k model (its at least advertised on their site).
I don't have any problems with LED. On most sets, you can turn "off" the "enhancements" to eliminate the soap opera effect. I'm of the opinion the comparing plasma to LED in the store is an exercise in stupidity, as the conditions and calibrations are nowhere near what you'll experience in your home. I'm pleased with the move to LED. Until I can see a direct, side-by-side comparison, I'll maintain that the differences in PQ are pretty subtle to my eye.Polk Fronts: RTi A7's

The problem with Vizio is reliability and service... They have one of the worst reliability records and very difficult to repair. There was a cnet posting about how one of their staff bought a vizio and after a year it failed. vizio said they could not be repaired and the owner was told to just buy a new display... not too encouraging.

Still, going back to the other store with the better room and cal, the Panasonic plasma looked very nice even better than the Sharp but the shocker was the LG 84". Yes the sheer size stopped all in their tracks but the picture was amazing playing the Transformers BR....best in the house last year.2.2 Office Setup | LG 29UB55 21:9 UltraWide | HP Probook 630 G8 | Dell Latitude | Cabasse Stream Amp 100 | Boston Acoustics VS 240 | AUDIORAX Desk Stands | Mirage Omni S8 sub1 | Mirage Omni S8 Sub2 -

My father is law had a DLP TV which he liked. It had a terrible picture IMO. His TV broke so he got a new one otherwise he would still be looking at his crappy TV. If you don't mind your TV too much you could live with a while until the UHD TV's come down in price. I got a great deal (when I bought it) on my 65" plasma for about $4,500. Now I could get a UHD on for close to the same price. I have seen LED TV's that I hated because of the soap opera effect. My father in law's 70" looks good though. Wait a year of so if you can. I will wait until the UHD TV's are close to $2000 for an 80". Still like my TV.Panasonic 65" Plasma - Panasonic Blu-ray. Onkyo TX-NR809 RTi A7s fronts - MK CS150s surronds.

Yeah, baby! That's what I'm talkin' about! Rio Olympics - late summer 2016. 80" UHD for 2 g right before the Olympics? I'd do that. Bring on the girls dancing Samba!
