Static Electricity

Hey, Everyone. Question

I'm going to turn a bonus room into a dedicated home theater. The room is 21x29 ft. with (I think) bamboo floors. I saw a 12x18 ft area rug on CL. I called the guy and had him look at the tag....100% nylon. So I'm thinking, "hmm...static shock is irritating". Here is the question. Is the possibility of static electricity bad for electronics?

    Yes but then nylon is so easy to keep clean.

    I deal with this, the air at 8,000 feet in the mountains of CO is so dry. Sometimes when I go to press a button on something I get an faint audible "shock" type noise through the speakers or headphones.

    Most carpet is made from polypropylene, nylon or polyester, I know the carper in my listening room is. Never been a problem, and we have very dry winters here.

    The static at work is so bad in the winter I've had computers reboot when people touch them, but never any damage.

    You can eliminate this potential damage to sensitive electronics by putting a ground touch strip near your equipment so you can touch this and get rid of the static charge before you touch your electronics. A static charge can be on the order of 1000+ volts
