In case you have not heard....

Nirvana, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Yes, the Zombies, and The Replacements are all first-time nominees.

Repeats include KISS, LL Cool J, N.W.A., Cat Stevens, Deep Purple, The Meters, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Chic.

Sorry, still no Moody Blues, Chicago, Dire Straits, etc.

I thought I read that Yes was also a first-time nominee. Surprised, but also very surprised that Linda was not already in the hall.

My guess....Nirvana, Deep Purple, Linda Ronstadt, Hall & Oates, and Chic will get in. Peter Gabriel was inducted as a member of Genesis only 2 years ago.

Rush was inducted earlier this year into the Hall, along with Donna Summer, Heart, Randy Newman, Albert King, and Public Enemy.

If Nirvana gets in before YES, I wil throw up..........

It's sad that Moody Blues has still not been nominated. They've been around forever and put out fantastic music!

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Sometimes you have to wonder who are these jag stains that keep passing up the true R&R acts for some acts from a whole different genre. I agree with Headrott, Moody Blues deserve to be nominated, are they waiting for them to all die off ???

I particularly enjoyed Alex Lifesons "speech", maybe Google or Youtube has it somewhere.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

    No.

I know you are thinking to yourself...."I can't go for that....no can do."

But Hall & Oates made the cut, as did Nirvana, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, KISS, and Cat Stevens.

F*cking AGAIN!!! The R&R HOF is a sham and a shame! Nirvana has literally been around half the amount of time of YES and their music is pathetic compared to YES'. It's time for me to go throw up now......

I agree it is a sham if for no other reason Kiss got in and Deep Purple hasn't, but to play the devils advocate here, YES was influential, but Nirvana pretty much was the start to an entire new music genre.

JMHO and I'm no fan of Nirvana.

I'm glad to see Nirvana get in, David Grohl is awesome, I loved watching the Foo Fighters last year with Rush.. I'm no big Nirvana fan but I can see why they are in..

Kiss is long over due, one I never understood.. Their record sales, longevity, and no band has inspired so many kids to pick up an instrument then Kiss, love or hate em, they deserved to be there 15 years ago or better...

With that said, We shouldn't even be talking about Deep Purple or Yes, as they should have been in there many years ago as well..

Pearl Jam was the band that really made the grunge movement in the early 90's, if you can say grunge was an entire new music genre. And anybody that was alive when Yes came out knows they were the start of an entire new music genre.

Actually Neil Young and Crazy Horse had a major influence on many of the grunge bands rise. His 91 tour was raw garage rock aka
    Grunge.
That tour and his acoustic tours have always been my favorites.
Arc/Weld is grunge at its best in my opinion.

Agreed 100%. I don't know that "grunge" was anything "new", IMO. It seems to me like it was an amalgam of other genres, and nothing really new.

Progressive rock on the other hand absolutely was new. YES was THE biggest name in progressive rock (and still is). IMO, music still has not caught up to what YES did 40 years ago. I know some will disagree with this statement, but take another listen to songs and albums like Close To The Edge, Tales From Topographic Oceans, etc.

Amen brother. As much as I can enjoy raw guitar driven jams Yes was and is on an entirely different level.
The amazing talent of Howe and Wakeman alone is stunning.Add the deep lyrics(sometimes a little too deep for some) and it's in placee few have taken rock music.
That said,I can still see how the masterful writing and musicianship of Donna Summer will always get the nod first.
When the subject of great rock and roll comes up,a disco queen always comes to mind ya know.

Did Dick Dale ever get in? How about Johnny Burnette and the Rock n'Roll Trio? As much influence both of these have been to music, over the past 50 or so years, they should be no brainers.
