Haven't heard how good the blu-ray sounds yet. Due out next week, Oct.22. I'll post the Amazon description below. Pricey at 50-60 bucks, but with 4 CDs as well as the blu-ray. Put out by Rhino records.
"Super Deluxe five disc (four CDs + Blu-Ray) edition includes , three discs of previously unreleased music from the sessions, a Blu-Ray Audio disc with high-resolution 48K 24 bit PCM stereo and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround sound audio of original album. The package is presented in a linen-wrapped folio Includes a booklet with liner notes from Alan Light and original engineer Elliot Scheiner. Digitally remastered edition of the classic album from the Irish singer/songwriter. In the fall of 1969, Van Morrison entered the studio to record Moondance, the album that would soon become his commercial breakthrough and one of the most beloved recordings of all time. Following its release by Warner Bros. in February 1970, Moondance would later be certified triple platinum by the RIAA, inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame (1999) and named #65 on the list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" published by Rolling Stone (2003)."

Meh. I've never been all that interested in having 7 takes of the same song. 24-bit Moondance would be cool, but not at $60 including 4 cd's I'll never listen to. I've got the 180g vinyl, which sounds great.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

This just came out as hi-rez download on hdtracks. There's a coupon code to save 10%. The deluxe edition, the equivalent of the 4-disc set you posted, is $30.98 for 24/96. Call it $28 with the coupon. Then there's the album only at $17.98 for 24/96, call it $16 with the coupon. $16 for remastered Moondance in 24/96.... Now we're talkin!Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

No connection to the Blu/Ray but here's a little story about Van the Man. A friend and I were hitchhiking all over Marin one day and came across this little club what seemed like in the woods of a town called Nascio. The place called Rancho Nascio w/ Van headling and some unknown group was opening. We got there so early we gave the set up girls a rap that we were "A&R" people from the record co. and needed good seats ,they bought the rap and we got a table reserved up front. The opening unknown band turned out to be Huey Lewis and the News who were great and Van and the band were absolutely amazing. So good as a matter of fact I and few friends went to see him again a few months later this time at one of the best venues in S.F. The Great American Music Hall and was so obviously drunk that we demanded and got our money back because it WAS that obvious and management did not want a rush on the box office. This was the 1st and only time I ever asked for ,deserved and got my money back.So much for Van the Man..I'm talking mid to late 70's here.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Occasionally I'll pick up a 'collector's edition' of something if I have a high enough interest (Pink Floyd's Immersion editions of TDSOTM and WYWH come to mind), so I picked up the 5 disc set today of Moondance. I do like the "options" you have with the hi rez files, though I'm not much of a downloader (old fashioned I guess, gimme the shiny discs please). Listened to the blu-ray this evening and it's just stellar. 192kHz/24bit in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 or 2.0 on a 50gb disc. Rare to see Dolby TrueHD on a blu-ray audio only disc. The 5.1 mix was extracted by the original engineer I believe, about 10 years ago. Separation and sound stage are stunning, and the disc is so "black" between the musical notes. Blu-ray audio only I think is a great rival for SACD, and putting out more of BOTH would make me happy. Like the Pink Floyd remakes I mentioned, it would have been nice to see those and Moondance in a stand alone blu-ray option. The incredible sound on these blu-rays needs to be available to the masses, as it were, for a decent price. This format could take off if packaged right I think. Also liked the "book" format this came in, a nice touch. There's a full review over on blu-ray.com for anyone who has an interest. BTW, cool story LW...
