Just Inherited "Sadly NO Polk Equipment"

Really wish I could say, Look at all my Grandfather's Polk equipment I got. However, I did just finish unloading 17 totes "more to pick up" of vintage toy rail road stuff. The amount is beyond belief. He worked for the rail road for 45 years. I don't want this stuff. I'm hoping to find some direction to sell it so I can go see Trey someday and do all the mods to my sda's.
Any ideas would be great. Tried the usual train sites/forums. Ebay is the usual response. No idea how to proceed.

I realize I only have 149 posts. I have done Polk business with moosebash66 on some replacement tweeters which went "flawless". I believe he will verify for my integrity.

Would only take one, I run really slow these days.
I'll check on the Lionel thing. Nephew wouldn't need 8 foot sections of track would he? I think there is over 200 of those pieces alone.....

I would be looking for all you have if it's Lionel. HO or N gauge is too small for him to play with yet, but I may be interested as well. If any of this stuff is of collector quality, I may not be able to afford it, but lets see what you've got. I would recommend keeping some of the nicer stuff just to have the heirlooms to pass along to future generations.

I too am sorry for your loss.

Take your time and do some research before you start selling that stuff. It can be worth major money in the right hands. My step father's father had a decent size collection of domestic trains and train related items. Most were in ok condition but kept in a house that looked like it had orange wall paint due to the nicotine. When he passed they sold it as a lot for somewhere around the $15k range. Once they got done settling his estate and life had calmed down they found they could have probably made about double that.

Don't rush it. Take your time, remember there's always someone quick to take advantage of a situation...

Don't be too quick to unload what you've got. If it's older Lionel, given the volume, you may very well have more than a 100K worth of trains. Do some research.

BINGO^^^^^ Family friend was always self employed loved trains had so much stuff it was warehoused. He never had any life insurance but he did have $750,000.00 in old train gear. I remember his wife ALWAYS rode him to get rid of all his clutter and he always said you'll thank me when I'm gone. Her comment was and I'm sure we have all heard this from our wives"It may be sooner than you'd like" well when she ended up selling it all and seen the dollars this was her comment " I wish he had 3 more storage areas just like this" and "we should of sold this yrs ago" but he knew if he sold yrs ago she would have nothing.....

Our local PBS station runs an old series "Tracks Ahead," i got the following link via TA's site to "World's Greates Hobby." Click on both Indiana & Iowa (IN clubs run on to the Iowa listings).

"Welcome! Joining a model-railroad club is a great way to meet enthusiastic members of the hobby. Click on the state to look for clubs in your area."

    http://www.greatesthobby.com/wgh/directory/clubs.asp.html

TA has shown some fantastic train layouts; as well as "museums" where members have established permanent layouts, some as memorials. Wouldn't be surprised you may meet a hobbyist who knew of your grandfather.

Thanks for the link, late last night I contacted a museum up north and will followup on that lead. I'm not really a "train" guy. However, it sure does bring back memories.
Not sure if I said this last night, there were 17 totes of stuff and thats just the things that were packed up..

That two story rail house... My dad gave me one when I was a kid. Definitely worth something today....

I look at some of these things and cry a bit. I have not had any relationship whatsoever with my father in 30 years, and all of the things that were his as a kid... which ne gave me, are long gone now, thanks to a step-mother that destroyed the relationship I had with him, and worse yet, a father than went along to get along.

Your stuff will have real value, perhaps well into the mid 5 figures.

Sorry to hear about the family thing. Grandpappy "what we called" him was a character thats for sure and will be sadly missed.
But I know he is in a better place now and feeling fine.
I had some guy offer me $400.00 for the yellow 3 piece set earlier today, I declined at the moment as I need to go thru everything.
The oil well thing is kinda cool, it works, the pump moves correctly. Will be a fun project, timely but fun. As I said earlier, have not made a list yet, thats gonna take some massive time and work. Would rather work on my sda's but I am quite modification/challenged in a bad way....

I just hope to get my sda's to Trey someday and get them modded out, maybe pick up a few other pairs of speakers some day.
Probably just box this stuff back up, vacuum seal what I can and pass it all on to the grandkids, if we ever get any..

Probably would be neat to set it all up and watch it run, take a ton of room though. Think I'll stick to my first obsession, Polk speakers. Funny is, when I first joined this site, people always said " beware of the rabbit hole", did not know what it meant back then, I do now!!!!

I hear ya. Keep in mind some of that old Lionel stuff is worth a few bucks. The Union Pacific engine I have has gone in the $300-$450 range by itself on ebay. Mine is pretty minty as well. Sadly the original boxes did not survive.
