Sitting here listening to a temporary 2-channel rig, and just decided that the vintage pre-amp/amp combo I'm staring at is what I want to build my next system around. Seriously. Yamaha C-80 and M-80. Those red lights are some serious eye candy. Sounds good, too.

If you don't have this brochure (scan) from hifiengine already, you may want to pick up a copy...

I have always wanted that combination. Love that vintage Yamaha. What speakers are you using with this system?

yeah, that's so weird - I thought Flikr fixed that... and I swear I've posted that link before and the hardware hadn't been supine.

Funny timing...I just scooped up a MX-600u amp from Goodwill. Of course the protection light is on permanently and no sound is output. I did get a quote for.....ahem....400.00 to completely restore this from a place that specializes in older Yammy gear.

What do y'all think....worth the investment to restore? The physical condition is excellent considering its a Goodwill find.

Those red LEDs improve sound quality by at least 20 Hz.

I have a MX-1000 on the bench that I have been trying to get working, picked it up real cheap but just haven't had much time for it lately. Hopefully the last few resistors and a transistor I see that are bad could be the fix. I would love to see how it sounds against the 2B's but maybe someday.

I have the CX-1000 and it needs a mate.

Ahh! Yes! Blue Lights. and meters, meters, meters. Love that vintage gear. Luxman still uses meters and BLUE LIGHTS in some of thier recent production amps.
I once had a pair of Proton 1200a amps, Huge faceplate meters, Great sound and mezmerizing to look at.
    Enjoy your lost amp find.
