Okie dokie.....

I'm moving into the integrated direction....so, I've got a couple of preamps that are on the block.

Dodd Battery Preamp $1,600

More has been said about this preamp than probably needs to be....but this is really a destination piece. It is SO quiet that it actually takes getting used to. This is minty with original box, manual and remote. Asking price includes shipping lower 48.

Parasound P/LD 2000 $500

I stepped into this one by accident. John Curl design. Picked it up a couple of months ago and haven't taken it out of the rig since. It's that good. Everything that I didn't think a solid state pre wouldn't be. I've got the remote, manual, Parasound power cord and sales brochure...but not the box. Includes shipping lower 48.

The Dodd is a GREAT preamp guys, and impossible to beat by anything less than 5k. Some picks could help Troy.

OK. So I know that using an RCA > XLR adapter would partially defeat the purpose of my BAT VK-500, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't sound damn good. hmm...

Oh and btw, I can vouge for the Parasound P/LD 2000. I have one and it is a great sounding preamp, especially for the asking price here. Very hard to beat for that price!

Thanks! I agree, both are great preamps....and if it were not for the fact that I'm trying to fund another project.....neither would have seen the light of day. IMHO, the parasound is an absolute steal at that price considering it's performance.

The Dodd is just in another category......it's a destination piece.

For the interested, what I'm up to is liquidating some gear so I can get the integrated that I want, along with a pair of LSiMs....I was that blown away by the 703's. Going the integrated route....I can't justify having the Dodd and the Parasound in the closet.

    Skip,

Simplicity, for one. I mean, I just can't seem to escape the tons of gear that seems to permeate my dwelling and the hoard thing had cachet in the past but, really, I just want less clutter.

Second, heat. the Heathkits....while being world class amps, are space heaters. I'd like to NOT have the cave be a sauna....so, really, I'm just looking to make life simple plug and play.

    TroyD,

I am interested in the Parasound P/LD 2000.

Does it have a phono stage?
Would it be a good match for a Parasound HCA 1500A power amp?

I've been looking for a nice pre to match a mint Parasound HCA 1500A power amp I bought a few months ago but have not even hooked up yet because I do not have a pre amp for it (I am still using my vintage Yamaha CR 2020 receiver to power my Polk SDA 2BTL speakers, Rotel RCC 1055 CD player, and Thorens TD-160 tt).

I had been looking at the new Parasound New Classic 2100 pre amp as that has gotten great reviews but this looks like a great unit as well.
Do you know how the PL/D 2000 would compare to the 2100? I do have a turntable and spin vinyl quite frequently so I would like a pre with a phono stage.

    Thanks.

^ pglbook- don't take my word as gospel, but I have been doing some research on this pre cause I'm interested as well just don't have the $ right now.... from what I have read it would smoke the new classic 2100. This P/LD 2000 is comparable to adcom GTP750 or better and much better some think than the Halo P3 pre. I don't believe it has a phono input, but I'd wager a decent $200 separate phono pre thru this would sound much better than the built in phono on the New Classic 2100.

If you've got the coin, all the reviews I've read rate it very highly and has some upgrade potential as well. I believe Big Sky Audio has a pkg in the $500 range which will boost capabilities even higher. Again do your own research and wait for those more knowlegable than myself to verify, but it looks like an awesome piece by all accounts, and I CAN vouch for the fact it sounded awesome at Polkfest last wkend.

My opinion is that the P/LD-2000 is the best match for the HCA-1500a that Parasound has ever made.

    It's better.

Ok now about the Dodd... am I stupid for considering using RCA > XLR adapters for use with my BAT, or is that a viable solution?

Does the BAT only have balanced inputs?

I've heard of people using adapters but have no experience with it personally.

    Congratulations, Tnhndyman.
I was saving up the money for this myself but you beat me to it by about 2 weeks (when I get my next paycheck). Enjoy the pre!

TroyD, keep me next in line for this if, for some reason, the sale is not finalized.

Sorry for the thread crap boys but after 4 whiney a$$ pm's from pglbook about how I stole this pre out from under his offer of interest, while playing nice to me here in the actual thread-I'm over it. Truth is Peter, we both expressed interest and I told you it's positives because I had been researching all avail info on it and had actually HEARD it with the 703's while at Troy's house for PolkFest. When Troy saw I was interested, he sent me a pm the next day letting me know he would hold till I had funds. I apologize in advance for sharing your PM Troy, but I am sick of this guy's complaining. Here is the text of the pm I received on Thursday morning 10/17/13 at 8:06 am.....

    Hey buddy!

So, you wanting to trade those 703's for a Parasound preamp? Ha ha!

If you are interested in it.....I can hold on to it for awhile. That's not a big deal. I'm actually not in a rush to move it....the Dodd I'd really like to move. Not that it's not a great preamp, it is but I'm heading in a different direction.

So, if you are interested....you have first bite at the apple and, again, I'm not in a rush so I can hold it as long as you want.

LSiM's? Either the 703's the's or the 705's.....my only issue with the 703's is that I'd have to buy stands....not a deal breaker...

    Troy

I busted my butt for the next 4 days selling some of my vintage gear collection and came up with the funds to buy it. Your PM to me thanking me for the info on the pre came 5 days after you expressed interest and had made an offer to Troy for 1/2 $ now and 1/2 in 3 weeks- which he REFUSED... By that time, I had already got the $ together and sent pm and voicemail to Troy. I tried to apologize to you for your inability to come up with funds due to having to wait on a paycheck from a new job and offered to give you 1st dibs on buying it from me if it didn't work out in my system. So for the last 2 days you have sent increasingly snarky pms to me complaining but always ending with- but if you buy it no hard feelings.

Well it's perfectly clear that there is hard feelings and again I apologize for not expressing direct intent to buy in the thread itself, because I was doing all I could to come up with the money. In the end, the seller has the right to sell to whom he wants to, when he wants to, and pull the sale if necessary. I wish the transaction could have been more transparent and have learned from it; yet, I will not tolerate being insulted and badgered by a whiney ingrate. So I assure you Peter the feelings you expressed towards me in the last PM are mutual, and please don't hold your breath waiting on a future sale because you are officially on my bozo and ignore list.

Tnhndyman, I do not know why you had to take this issue public when it was done merely thru pm. But, again, I disagree with your assessment and interpretation. I will not comment in public thru this forum as I do not think it serves any good to do so.

But, as I told you in my pm and in a post I put on here a few hours ago, congratulations on the great pre. Enjoy it! As you know from the pm I sent you many days ago thanking you for the info on the pre after I fist expressed interest on October 16, I was hoping to get it myself and was saving up the money for it and would have bought it in a few weeks but you beat me to it. I understand that whoever comes up with the money first has first rights. Again, congratulations and enjoy it! I will continue my search.

Let me know if you might be able to get together this week. Would like to meet for lunch in Columbia and do the pickup if you can break free from Charleston. Trying to avoid PM's since both our boxes seem to get filled too often. Call or txt me anytime.
