Okay so tonight was the first time I got to play with this thing. Holy crap. My onkyo's NEVER sounded like this. It's loud as all get out but it does not sound like the speakers are straining. I LOVE this thing!
Congrats on your new Elite SC Zoom, glad the guys here who really know this gear were able to help you decide the best avr for you. Sad to see your Onkyo's biting the dust, keep polkin' dude!

Yes, thank you to everyone who gave me great advice. I am glad I stepped out of my Onkyo comfort zone and didn't just buy something I was familiar with. I was considering buying the 818 and am glad I went with the SC. When I cranked up my prior Onkyo 876 it was loud but it wasn't a comfortable loud. I was waiting for something to give. This SC gets loud effortlessly. My old speakers seem to really enjoy the Pioneer. I have the old RTi series from 2000. 800 towers, 400 CSi center and fx 300i surrounds. My sub also hits harder than it ever has and I have it at 50% power.
