I had a pretty healthy respect for his talent, but this year his numbers make Christian Ponder look like an all-pro. The Giants are 0-6, and I was hoping that they could take the Bears, but three picks, one being run back for a TD... Looks like his days are done in New York.

It's just a bad year for him. He won 2 SB, so one bad year obviously can't decide his future with the Giants.

A guy who works for me is a huge Giants fan, so naturally I burned up several texts tonight.

I told him Mark Sanchez is not on IR, he's playing for the Giants and wearing #10 now! But I concur, Eli
    is not going anywhere IMO.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

I would not be so sure on that. They will give him a couple more games, but my bet is they will pick a QB in the first round of the draft.

If Matt Schaub is anywhere near safe in Houston, Eli will be fine in NY. He actually looked good tonight on pretty much all other plays, excluding the first two INTs. The third INT was tipped and really not Eli's fault. But, yes, a very off year for him - already has as many INTs this year after 6 games as he did all of last season! And, with pretty much all the throws he did make tonight, I said to myself, "Ponder couldn't make that throw!" In fact, Eli's third INT of the night was about as on-target as Ponder's best throw this season.

Sad to see the Vikes cut McCleod Bethel-Thompson instead of Ponder with the Freeman pickup. I think MBT has a bright future ahead of him. So, glad he was picked up by San Fran, a team that has proven that they actually can develop a QB. Also, MBT is from San Fran originally and went to Sacramento State, so he's probably pretty happy with how things played out.

I think the Vikes kept Ponder over MBT thinking he might have some trade value down the line. I think they're wrong and see NO upside to keeping him around. Actually, I'm quite P.O.'d that nobody called for my input on all of this before it all was a done deal.

I agree that he is not going anywhere.

However, I think he should be benched for at least a quarter after his next INT. If Coughlin wants to keep any credibility as a tough coach he needs to show that Eli is not above getting benched for crap decisions that cause turnovers.

The problem for the Giants this year is mainly with the defense. We used to be able to get away with turnovers and generally poor offense because we had such a great defense. They never let the score get out of hand. But this year our D is just not up to the same standards as years past.

Eli looks like we hit rewind and he is back to his game from 5-6 years ago. I really hope he gets it figured out.

Their O-line is a sieve. Eli is getting sacked and pressured too much. I know he always looks calm but inside he has to be frustrated and anxious over the hits.

No doubt the O-line is pretty weak. However he NEEDS to make better choices AND throws under pressure.

The last few years he has been better at both but he back to his old ways of piss poor decision making and getting really wild with the ball when he is under any pressure. If you look at a lot of his throws (like his INT's) they are not in good places for his receivers or are too high. His tendency to throw too high is really dangerous since it puts the ball right in perfect position for the secondary playing behind the receivers.

Look at his 3rd INT last night. I guess people feel bad for Eli so they are trying to say that one was not his fault. However it was positioned in an almost impossible spot for the receiver (too high). IF he had made the catch it would have been considered a great catch despite a poor throw. It just comes down to poor throws and poor decisions from the guy who needs to protect the ball the most on the team.

I just find it to be crappy that Tom will bench an RB for almost an entire game (or more) for a turnover, yet Eli is in there every down when he has basically handed the ball to every opposing team multiple times a game (I think he has 17 turnovers in 6 games!).

It's time for him ride the pine and get it through his head that his game is not acceptable.

On most teams the difference between ability levels of the 1st and 2nd quarterback is much greater than between the 1st and second (or third!) running back. Eli made a lot of nice throws last night (and a couple awful ones). The pick-six was either a missed route by the receiver or the receiver and Eli read the coverage differently. First one was pretty awful.

Don't know who's 2nd on the depth chart, but putting a 2nd stringer out there behind that offensive line probably isn't a recipe for success.

Look, I'm no fan of Eli, especially after he trashed the Pats in the closing minutes of two SBs. But one tough season does not mean that he is still not an elite QB. Come on, give the guy some room.

We live in a society where if your Nielsen ratings slump for two weeks in a row you get your show cancelled, where almost everybody who is a wage laborer is shaking in their boots because they're not sure "how much longer" they'll last, or management might NOT LIKE THEM, or if their job will disappear. Where every moron who has a cell phone can tweet the most stupid thought they have and take down, bully, their peers, etc. Where student evaluations terrorize young teachers throughout the land. Where presidential primary candidates rise to fame for a week or two and fade as soon as they lose the next contest. Where Kardashians can be stars, for God's sake!! The Tyranny of Public opinion rules over us with an iron fist.

So, I for one, like to give "everyone" a couple of chances before I throw him in the discard pile. Eli will be back, and the Giants would be making a mistake to get rid of him soon.

Now back to our continual POLLING of the uninformed and the clueless! Just kidding? Or am I?

And what about the die hard fans, like those of us who grew up in Pa. and are still waiting for the Eagles to actually WIN a SB? I guess we could sympathize with you Viking fans, there? lol

I agree that Eli has it in him to be one of the best. But he needs a wake up call that this kind of play can't continue.

At this point the season is over, time to send Eli a message. Realistically it will send the whole team a message to let him ride the pine.

I really don't overreact too much when it comes to football. However, for six games in a row they have looked pathetic. I'm scared.

Oh, you mean back to his game like he was when the Giants won the Super Bowl and Eli was the MVP? ;-p

I'm guessing Eli will look like an All-Pro QB tonight against my hapless Vikings. Our pass rush has looked anemic and the only half-decent defensive secondary player on our roster (Harrison Smith) is out. Cornerbacks Cook and Robinson are amongst the worst in the league.

Prediction: Giants 31, Vikings 17. Eli passes for over 300 yds and 3 TDs. Their newly-signed RB Peyton Hillis gains over 100 yds on the ground.

I'm only hoping that Freeman looks like he's at least the short-term answer at QB for the Vikings, 'cuz I don't know if we'll be able to get the first pick in next year's draft with Jacksonville and Tampa Bay playing so poorly. However, after tonight's game, we should move up a spot in the picking order and move the Giants down a spot. Yay!

I honestly don't think a benching would help the team at all. Not good for overall morale, and let's be honest here, I suspect Eli knows more than anyone his crappy play can't continue as is. Unless you've entirely given up on the team, and want to see what Nassib has. Or Curtis Painter....(hahahahhahah.)

I don't want to say I told you so! But? Although this probably won't happen; it is possible we might have another one of those "surreal" Giants runs where they wildcard their way through everybody and Eli throws up another Hail Mary with less than a minute to go to win the SB. Yeah, that's how much I believe in the greatness of "any" current team in the NFL. Every one of them can be beaten on any given day! That includes the "favorites"!
