to grill or not to grill?
So heres a question for idle banter. Does the grill affect sound. Is it preferred on or off? I like looking at all those circles when i crank tunes, but after investing money on these speakers, does the grill's protection offer more than the sound improvement if off (if any)?

I have removed every speaker grill from every speaker that I own. I do believe that speaker grills negatively impact what I hear.

The grills on my Polk 5jrs appear to have a contour built into them to change how the tweeter sounds. I figure if it's just a covering, the less inbetween the source and the destination, the better. But if there's something there that's meant to change the way the speaker sounds, it may be better to leave it on. Up to your ear, either way.....Ludicrous gibs!

I like the speakers with the grills off, but now that I think about it, the sound is a bit on the bright side wtih some DVD's......have to try and put them back on tonight and see if I'm just outta my mind......comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

From my experience, speakers sound better with the grilles off. Some speakers look cool with the grilles off. But I keep them on to protect the speakers.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I like to wrap speaker cloth around my head and go to work.
I have no problems hearing things like..."Hey Mark, are you OK?"...and "Why don't you go home, I would feel more comfortable with that right now."
I leave mine on simply for aesthetics. I have noticed no change in sound, on the RTi's, but I also havn't really paid attention to that issue. I have heard speakers, mainly vintage models, that sound better with the grills off.
There is acoustically "transparent" fabric, and we use RF "transparent" panels at work, so it must have real world application.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
