Friends,
I've finally finished the rebuild of my Polk Monitor 7Bs, which came to me courtesy of RRomeo.
Short story - rebuilt crossovers with Dayton 1% caps and Mills resistors, added Larry's rings, dynamat on the driver and PR, acoustic insulation inside the cabs, and re-covered the cabs in real cherry veneer.
I'm still testing and burning in but so far I am very happy.
I took a lot of pictures and wrote up the whole story on my blog - you can read the entire saga here:
Many many thanks to all of the forum members who shared their own experiences in modding and restoring the speakers. It was your advice, posts, and shared experiences through this forum that gave me the knowledge to attempt this and the confidence that I could get it done. I produced the detailed write-up of my rebuild to pay this forward and hopefully give someone else the information they need to do the same.
Respectfully
G
PS - looking at my blog post and photos I realize I have to take some better close-ups of the veneer to show off my work. That will come soon!

Monitor 7B's are great speakers. In fact, 7B Studios were the first "Real" speakers I ever purchased. I still have them today and listen to them regularly as the left and right front speakers in my home theater system. It was my love of those speakers that led me here, and it was here that I learned about SDA technology. Now I am the proud owner of many Polk audio products, and I will continue that trend for years to come. Thanks Polk!Sources: Technics SL1200MKII | SME3009 Tonearm | Monster Alpha 1 MC cartridge | Oppo UDP203 disk player | Nikko NT-790 analog tuner | Musical Fidelity Trivista 21 DAC | Preamp: Threshold SL-10 | Amplifier: Threshold Stasis 2 | Speakers: Snell Acoustics C/V | Kimber 12-TC bi wire speakers | Analysis plus Oval 1 preamp to amp | Wireworld Eclipse 7 DAC to Preamp | Wireworld eclipse digital IC Oppo to DAC | Audioquest Quartz tuner to preamp |
