Going to hang this bad boy over my fireplace. Using Polk for surround sound.
Let me know what sets you suggest!
Thanks!

The big Sony is nice. I've switched back over to plasma though and had forgotten how much better the picture is, so if a plasma is doable I'd check into it.

I would strong suggest the latest top line Panasonic plasmas...
1. off-axis viewing is better
2. excellent contrast
3. little/no ghosting with 3D
Only drawback, higher power consumption... -
Right. A 65" TV over the fireplace. :rolleyes:Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable
Sony XA-5400ES SACD; Pass XP-22 pre; X600.5 amps
Magico S5 MKII Mcast Rose speakers; SPOD spikes
Shunyata Triton v3/Typhon QR on source, Denali 2000 (2) on amps
Shunyata Sigma XLR analog ICs, Sigma speaker cables
Shunyata Sigma HC (2), Sigma Analog, Sigma Digital, Z Anaconda (3) power cables
Mapleshade Samson V.3 four shelf solid maple rack, Micropoint brass footers
Three 20 amp circuits. -
Another vote for Panasonic Plasma. ST series or above. You may want to rethink the over the fireplace idea. While it looks good, it's not very comfortable watching at that height.

My parents Sony is good for making a normall football game look like a Madden video game. Got to love the fluid motion software that makes everything look animated. The higher the refresh rate you go with the worse it is because the TV creates more false pictures to layer in between the native 30 frames a second that most video is shot at.
I think I will stay with plasma until OLED gets cheaper. I am passing on the LCD TV's that are back lit with white LEDs.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

Are you planning to ever use the fireplace? If so, I'd recommend another plan.

Not a fan of the TV over the fireplace. In my last home, which was a rental, I had no plans to use the fireplace as it was not used in years. So, when i went from a 50" to a 73", I put the tv right in front of the fireplace. The room was long and narrow so it was the perfect spot for the large TV with the couches set stadium style. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/WLDock/House/44119a6e-2b7f-4d96-bfa5-815171f3444d.jpg Now with my current rental my set is right next to the fireplace: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v711/WLDock/House/ad51424e-f213-4fc1-b080-155804cc3f84.jpg
I was forced to move and lost two rooms...including my big family room. But, once I get settled in this new area in another year or so, I will be looking to buy and a dedicated movie/music room is on the list...hopefully no fireplace issues.
As far as sets....while there are several LED to choose from, however the 65" Panasonic Plasma is stunning! If you have the bucks go for it. Myself, I looked hard at several of the 65" and 70" units and the Pani was the one i liked but the cost was just more than I was willing to spend at the time. Coming from a 50" Plasma, 65" is the smallest I was willing to live with. So, I went for size on the cheap and found a used Mitsu DLP....its gets the job done...until the next BIG thing is available.2.2 Office Setup | LG 29UB55 21:9 UltraWide | HP Probook 630 G8 | Dell Latitude | Cabasse Stream Amp 100 | Boston Acoustics VS 240 | AUDIORAX Desk Stands | Mirage Omni S8 sub1 | Mirage Omni S8 Sub2 -
