DVD to Receiver for analog audio

I've read here that for DVD-A and SACD we need to connect the DVD player to the Receiver with analog RCA connectors for 6 channels. My question is that there are 8 channels on the back of my 3803 Receiver and 2200 DVD player. Why don't you need to connect the other 2 (which I believe are for the Surround R & L Back speakers)?

i think because DVD-audio and SACD are 6 channel of audio

Left front center, right front, subwoofer, left surround, right surround.

on a SACD or DVD-audio disc.. there probably isn't any other two channels of audio... so they wouldn't be utilized. You may be able to direct your Denon to simulate using those two extra channels of audio.. but i'm not sure there.
