as my hca-1200 has left/right input level controls, can i bypass the preamp and connect my cd player directly to the amp for playback? thanks.

Yes, but be careful. Turn the volume controls on the amp all the way down; turn on the cd player; turn on the amp; play a track on the cd player; gradually bring the volume up. You may or may not be able to get the volume loud enough, depending on the output strength of the cd player.

    Have fun!
