    Hello troyj,
Welcome to Polk's forum. There are two parts to your subwoofer, the woofer and the bass amplifier that drives it. In order to determine which part it is remove the grille cover and take out the screws that hold the woofer onto the cabinet. Then use a putty knife to loosen up the woofer's frame from the cabinet. When things seem loose pull the woofer from the cabinet and disconnect the two attached wires. Now take two wires from one of your speakers and touch them to the woofer's terminals at a very low playing volume. I stress the low volume setting and resist the temptation to turn the volume up if you don't hear any sound. You should hear undistorted sound coming from the woofer at a low volume.
