...and left this ****ty E60 in its place in my driveway...
null_zpsc85ac3f5.jpg

Seriously though, decided I wanted something with AWD and had been checking out Audi A6 Premiums, Mercedes E Class 4matics, etc.
Buddy of mine works at one of the local Ford dealers and called me to let me know that this low mileage 1 owner 2008 535xi showed up as a trade-in and I should come check it out.
That was Tuesday afternoon.

Ended up getting $14,025 for my Acura on trade. They threw in remote start, Weather Tech mats and undercoating.

This thing is amazingly clean. And everything feels substantial about it. Solid as a boulder. And it pulls like a locomotive. The torque curve is a flat line at or slightly about 300 from 1400 rpms to 5000 rpms.

Anyway, it wasn't from eBay and I didn't have to sell off my speaker cables collection to buy it, but it'll do.

;) @ PFB

Neighbor kids. They live 2 houses down from me...and let me throw the football with them on the weekends. Good kids.

Nice BMW! As you said, BMW's have that very solid feeling. The doors have that solid "thud" to them when you shut them. They handle better than any other car I have driven (never driven a Mercedes however). BMW makes great cars! Congratulations and enjoy.

The Acura handled great but had a ton of body roll.
The BMW through the same set of curves feels very planted and stable with little to no discernible body roll...and does so without feeling too stiffly sprung.

Very nice purchase, congrats man! Very similar color to my old S4.....you're going to spend many a weekend in the driveway washing her up, I can tell you that now :)

AWD is loads of fun, and the fit and finish in general in a luxury car is just wonderful. All the little things add up. Enjoy your new (to you) ride!

Interesting, the TL is their most luxurious car correct? Build quality of the BMW is significant over your TL?

My opinion, BMW makes a better driver's car but Acura is more reliable and dependable long term. Owned both and loved them both.

Careful with those. I did extensive research when I got my E60 and ended up avoiding the 535i as the twin turbos are known for failing prematurely, along with the HPFP. They're covered under warranty until 10yr/120k miles. Be prepared for it being in the shop often for the fuel pump. The move to twin scroll turbo and redesigned hpfp has seemed to resolve the issue. Other things to be aware of are the steering angle sensor likes to go randomly ($1200-2000), the oil change is $153 and the reset for it can only be done with a programmer or at the dealer (cheaper to have the dealer change the oil when you consider that). The batteries are a PITA to replace and MUST be reprogrammed when replaced or it charges incorrectly. The iDrive is a pain, and unless you got the newer model (late 2010 and on), it's really ugly on the navigation. Also the laser is known to go out around 65k miles - but it's about a 2 hour DIY for $50. I bought my E60 550i knowing all this - they're super high maintenance, but if you keep up with it they are very fun. If you want to push it get the Cobb tuner or for cheap thrills get the JB4 and push 400+hp/400+tq for $600. If you think the 535xi rides on rails, try a 550i M-Sport or M5. The suspension on them is wicked. The only thing I hate is no LSD on any model but M. Because of such, doing a drift/powerslide is very difficult compared to having LSD.

There are many many things about them - I can't think of them all but you can hit me up if you have questions. We had an E60 528i, 550i, and a 2011 335i until I traded the 528i for an SUV last month.

RL is their flagship. I think it's RLX now.

TL is a 30-40k car, inline with the 528i. A 535i starts at 45 and can top 55k easily with all options. 550i can top 80k fully loaded, just shy of the M5 at 92k.

nguyendot - I was well aware of the potential issues of the N54 long before I decided on this particular car. The biggest reason I picked this one is because of the religious maintenance on the car at the local BMW dealer.
I can trace the services and maintenances from day one to present. A lot of the HPFP issues were traced back to owners using ethanol based fuels. International Engine of the Year Award 5 times plus 3 time winner of Ward's 10 Best Engines...the engine itself is hearty.
Fortunately, I have been long time friends with a BMW tech and he can do the reset for me for free...but I also have 5 free oil changes at the BMW dealer as part of the deal so I won't have to worry about that for a couple of years.

Nightfall - The TL is nice and is the Acura Mid-size entry. But it has always felt like a Honda to me. Even the leather felt fake. I really enjoyed the car and would still have it if it was available with AWD...but I would have had to go 2009 or newer for AWD and that body style is outright fugly.

As long as you are in the know and it's taken care of they're awesome vehicles. A lot of people buy them and don't now and get super upset down the road.

The only reason they get upset is because somewhere along the line it gets left out that these cars require a lot of maintenance. Stuff that the dealer is better equipped to do. This runs into the thousands in extra costs every few years. Ask any mechanic who works on them. Especially when they start hitting around 90,000 on the clock. While BMW makes a great car, their prices on parts is astronomical, same with Land Rover. Doesn't make them a bad car, just a costly one.

My thoughts exactly. That stupid metal strip across the front grill looks way too cheap too. As an upscale line to Honda, I don't think they went far enough upwards to warrant the coinage.
