Lol Ive been working on my setup for the last 8 months or so and have been verry sad about my performance of my system. Musicaly it sounds good but ht was a big downer. I was flipping through my dvd players menu and saw audio setup options and decided to look in there and omfg there it was in black and white settings for Prologic and dts were off. Turned them on and now i have to watch every movie over again such a huge difference. What the hell did Sony expect that mono was the damn default mode for ht. Hope this helps some one else out whos a tard like me.

I know how you feel...same thing happened to me. It was like owning a Ferrari that someone had put a governor on.

There is a big difference between defaulting to mono (from warviper) and defaulting to stereo. Stereo should be the default as it's the only thing worth listening to!

As for Sony products, they make some crap, some mid-line and they make some top of the line. All depends on how much money you want to spend. I have a real POS Denon receiver (freebie) in my shop right now. If I judged all Denon products off of this one, then I'd have to say Denon makes the worst gear, PERIOD! Of course, that's not true, so stop beating up on Sony because you were to effn cheap to buy the better stuff!!!

First off its a ps2 video gaming machinedvd player. If you dont believe me then look at all the adds in the newspaper. If that is true it should come ready for dvd. By no means did I say Sony sold crap, I even admited fault on my part for not checking the setting my self. And no Im not cheap Im just not dumb with my money "1500.00 dollar power cord anybody". And i find it strange that this is comeing from some one who does not even do ht.
Stereo should be the default as it's the only thing worth listening to!
In my opinion that says it all.

Sony is definetly not known for being user friendly...and gosh forbid you have to refer to the manual...usless for the most part.

Sounds like you are ok now, have fun.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Warviper, first off my only comment to you was about your comment that it defaults to mono, when in fact it defaults to stereo. Big difference. The main body of my comments were directed at all the Sony nah-sayers.

Now, the reason your PS2 and other gear default to stereo is because there are (believe it or not) many more homes with stereo rigs than HT rigs. In the case of the PS2, there is a even greater likelyhood that it will be hooked up directly to a stereo only TV set. So, the stereo default makes perfect sense.

I take it that the $1500.00 power cord statement was directed at me.... Actually, the ones that I use to own I purchased for under $400.00 each. I had to sell them because my new gear uses 20 amp IEC's and PS Audio doesn't make one yet. It's suppose to be on the market in a few months at which time I will purchase them.

Thank you for agreeing with my "stereo only" comment and I'm glad you got your settings worked out to your satisfaction.

My apologies F1 or should I just call you nut. I realized that you are trying to sell your Sony amp in the flea market. Not bashing Sony is the only proper thing to do.

Actually you can call me anything you want, there's nothing that I haven't been called already. :D

Now, you have to keep up. The Sony has been sold to someone who knows a good piece of gear when they hear it. I would have kept it except it didn't fit in my plans and I wasn't going to put it in my shop where it would get all effed up. That's why the Denon is down there.

The thing that gets me is all the people who bash a product because they bought a entry level $150.00 receiver and it sounded like ****, so they think all that companies products are crap. The fact of the matter is that Sony has received more awards for top of the line gear than any other audio company, PERIOD!

You missed the point of the thread. No where in the thread did I say anything about the picture or sound quality of the ps2 only the fact that the setting was not the way that it would best fit the consumer who buys a video game consol slash DVD player. Long live Sony.

    Hey, we're cool.

As I said before, the jist of my soap box comments where directed at the Sony nay-sayers, not you. Sorry if you took it any other way.
