Choosing Speakers

I am in the process of purchasing and setting up my Home Theatre and need some help relative to speakers. To complement my new 50" Plasma, I am purchasing a Denon 3803 receiver, Niles SI275 (to power speakers in the rest of the house), a CD & DVD Player, etc.

I am figuring on spending $2000 - $2500 on speakers. The fronts need to be book shelf speakers, the rears (I think they are 15yo Bose) are built in to the ceiling currently, I need a sub woofer and center channel speaker. The room is about 25' long by 18' wide with plasma mounted on one end (over a low fireplace). The main couch is about 15' from the screen with the remainder of the room left open. I am considering the Polk LSiC (center channel speaker), and either the LSiFx's or LSi9's for the front bookshelf speakers. These would be sitting on top of (34" high) built in cabinets on either side of the plasma. Any suggestions relative to the above and on a subwoofer (Polk or other brand)? Anyone ever used Polk's LC80i ceiling speakers? Thanks for any helpful input.

I would suggest you try the LSiC with the LSi9s. Forget the LSiFxs for main speakers. They are for a diffused sound feild, not appropriate for front speakers. As for a sub, SVS, HSU, Velodyne, Paradigm etc are good but I think that I read that Polk is coming out with a LSi subwoofer. Maybe someone can confirm.

Thanks for the info on the LSiFX's. I suspected this to be the case but was looking for confirmation. Anything I should consider relative to a subwoofer decision? Thanks.

See above for room dimensions and budget .....If you figure $1200 - $1400 for the center speaker and front bookshelves (and I try to keep my current Bose (in ceiling) speakers for the rears that would leave $700 - $1000 for a subwoofer.
    Thanks.

I think you should kill the idea of bookshelves, because they just dont sound right, and I would recommend you 86 the bose, and if you absolutley have to have ceiling speakers instead of floor or wall mounted surrounds, then i would definetly upgrade to some new speakers, and make sure they are wired properly.

As far as the sub goes look at svs subs...they sound excellent, and have very deep, true bass. http://www.svsubwoofers.com

Your 3803 isn't going to drive the Lsi's to their potential. They're 4ohm. It's been tried and failed. Look to the RT series if you're set on the 3803, or amp(s) with the 3803 if you're set on Lsi's. Just a thought

Thank you for the information relative to the 3803. Sounds like I need to do a little more homework here.

Been out for a few years. I think its original name was LSiW, or something like that. Comes in Cherry or Black, and from the side looks like the bottom half of my cherry LSi15s, and the sound meshes fine with the LSi15s.

BlueFox, The thread is over 4 years old, and considering gatemplin has not been seen here since 09-20-2006 he stopped looking for the answer :D.

Thank you, Vic12, for bumping this and other threads up with your useful posts.
    So... what are you selling?

Sorry. How in the world does anyone even find a 4 year old thread?
