Front effect speakers?

What do front effect speakers do?....are they worth the effort....or the money?

They are designed to increase the front sound stage by being placed higher and wider than the mains. I've never heard a good setup that used them so I'm not sure how much they really add. I know Yamaha's DSP's take advatage of them so if you are a DSP kind of person, it would probably be worth a try. I haven't done it on my system, but have been thinking about putting a couple LSi7's up there.

I HAVE heard of this. And have never heard or seen a setup using them or pre-amp or reciever that uses them. They are not discret and mains in DD/DTS or basicly ambience for the center anyway.
