I've attached a pic of the front of my LR. I'm about to purchase dual psw505s as soon as they go on a big sale on Newegg. I'm assuming my towers are not in the best place right beside the entertainment center?? So here are my thoughts. Would moving the towers out to the sides help them and also could I put the 505s between them and the EC? I could also leave the towers where they are and let the 505s be on the outside of them instead. Thoughts? Suggestions? My placement options are very limited but I my thoughts are by moving the towers out and subs between this would provide best bass response?

I would try both ways & see how it sounds to you. Good choices With room conditions sometimes it's hard. She otta thump then--if you bring those towers out I take it you'll have to toe them a hair. If placement now is good I'd try on subs beside them or relocate subs

I could be mistaken but I believe you want to pull them out just a tad so they aren't flush with the cabinets surrounding the fireplace.

If you move them aside and put a sub in between I'm not sure if that still applies.

I'll try pushing towers out and putting the subs beside the EC. Perhaps the towers will have better bass response away from the sides of the EC.

Doh! Just realized I didn't specify I was talking about your main speakers, not subs.

Have you considered some treatments/panels directly behind the speakers? That's bad placement no matter how you look at it. The best option is to try and tame it as best you can. I suspect the bass is a bit muddy and they have quite a bit of boom in that placement?

I also agree with trying to get them out from the wall another 3-4". That should help the sound out quite a bit.

I cant do treatments but after the subs arrive I could move them forward a few inches if that might help.

Can you get those sound panels with art on them? Might raise the wife approval factor.

Another quick question. Would it be alright to put the center csi5 to the left of the tv on the EC? It doesn't really have to be dead center does it?

Yes, it really should be dead center either above or below the TV. Even this is not perfectly ideal. Perfectly ideal is an acoustically transparent projector screen with the speaker behind the screen dead center.

I personally would rather run phantom then have the center completely to the side of the TV.

Before you buy 2 subs you need to get the rest in order. Move the speakers out from the back wall a bit, move them away from the fireplace cabinet and you absolutely need to toe them in. After that, buy one DSW Pro 660wi, which will be plenty for that room. You can buy a bracket to mount the center on top of the TV, aimed down.

What is toe-in going to do? My seating stretches the entire width of the room, is toeing in still ok with that? Just curious cause its a new concept to me.

I own the RTi 12. They do have a wide soundstage. I see both speakers were pulled away from the cab. since before they were flush on it. The right one looks like the toe in is less then the left. Is that done to aim better at the to your listening spot? Or just looks that way from the camera angle? It looks like you have them close ( in my opinion) to a good setup. About 3 feet away from each corner. Now to the back wall, with the rti 12 every room or position I have had them in is different. In my den, 2 feet out of the back wall was good but, the living room, 1 foot from the back wall gave me the best sound. I know the "norm" is 2-3 feet but, the "power port" on the back of the speakers seem to like it 2 feet or under for best bass on them in my room.

With moving them from the side like you did and out a little bit with some toe in, your sound stage should have changed a little bit. in your setup, I don't think you will hear a bass difference until you get at least 2 feet from the back wall and then it might be more, or less depending on the acoustics in your room. Every room is different.
Are you mainly using it for HT or Music?

BTW in my opinion also, since you will be getting subs, or a sub, worry about the soundstage or imaging since the speakers will be cut off at 80-100 hz anyway to the sub.

Also, dskip is right on about if your getting a one note wonder on the bass end. Room treatments and pulling the speakers out more will stop that if you are experiencing that With only moving them out a few inches, I doubt you would hear a big difference especially in the bass since the left one is porting toward the back wall / corner with toe in.

Nice receiver. Consider moving the blu-ray player(?) off the receiver to give it more ventilation.

Good info! Camera angle is def not showing the amount I moved it. The whole system does double duty but mainly music during the day.

Got a couple of new questions. I previously thought we would be moving sooner than later and that's not panning out so I'm hooking up my center and surrounds in my current LR. Questions are: Will my center be ok on top of the TV? Its kinda high but I'm going to try to aim it down somewhat. Also, my surrounds are going to be behind my sectional and a recliner. They'll be up off the floor on some stands but not over the top of the furniture. Will Audyssey be able to handle that during calibration? Its really the only option I have that I can think of but just want y'alls ideas and input. Thanks!

I used to have a LSiC and a CS2 sitting on a shelf on my 56" DLP TV. Like you I pointed them down and it worked fine. Not ideal, but you cant always have ideal ..

It will do what it can, but placement gets you 90% of the way to good sound, EQ just gets you that extra 10% or so, if that.

I would post a pic of your surround locations, but if it was me I would look at getting some mounting brackets (depending on what speaker your using). I used to use some for my Polk Monitor 40's and Infinity Primus P162's that were like 50 bucks from Amazon. Dont remember the model number/...
