Hello Trey, I understand what your doing in the last two pictures, but I don't understand why you have chosen the material you have. Cost? The reason I ask is I'm going to be adding "fatmat" to some speakers once weekends get crappy out here. I wonder if you prefer your method over the mat type material. TIA.

Hmm it came down to a few factors -
1) Cost
2) Flexibility
dynamat would have been an optimum choice but far out weighed the price point of this modification. The mix of the vinyl mat, which is similar to dynamat (but much easier to work with) and the foam tape worked really well on the baskets. They went from a ring to a more pronounced thud.
Fat mat is most likely a superior product by large and far but I am not sure how much more deadness it would provide overall over the vinyl mat... not to mention I can cut the vinyl mat on my table saw without it gumming up!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. I will keep that in mind for the future, but I feel the goal has been obtained so far, the baskets do not ring. The midrange driver basket is greatly reduced. It makes a real nice solid thud."
I have to say though that even $30 is about 80% more than what the method I am using cost and the customer wanted to tackle many issues and this issue was very far down the list...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I am pretty amazed at how just one of these speakers sound... the bass definitely is hitting lower and the midbass is cleaned up substantially...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
