The Clash & Bootleg CDs

Yesterday I ordered online (from some guy in England) a bootleg cd of the Clash's 1982 performance in Montego Bay, Jamaica. The reason I bought it and am so jazzed about getting it is I was at the show.

It was at an event called the World Music Festival. Thanksgiving weekend 1982. A three day festival that included, The Grateful Dead, Peter Tosh, The Original Wailers (minus Bob Marley, obviously, but Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh performed with them), Rita & Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers, Jimmy Cliff, Joe Jackson, Rick James, The English Beat, The Beach Boys, Black Uhuru, Toot and the Maytals, The B-52's, Bobby and the Midnites (Bob Weir's side project at the time), Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and the Pips and a few others that I can't recall at the moment. It was an incredible lineup but I was really there, more than anything, to see the Clash. Shows started around 7 0'clock each evening and didn't wrap up until dawn the following morning.

It was a whirlwind weekend. Flew down Wed. afternoon. Three nights of Music. Flew back Sunday morning. I had just gratuated from college the previous spring and went down with a buddy/classmate of mine. Talk about a party weekend. :D

Anyway, the CD is supposed to have been recorded straight off of the sound board and is reputed to have excellent sound quality for a bootleg. I hope so, since it will be a real slice of nostalgia for me to hear once again one of the most memorable concerts I ever saw.

So, anyone else hear a fan of the Clash? How about bootlegs? Anyone collect them?

I dont buy bootlegs but do activley trade them. there are sites where people post lists of all thier live shows and you can trade..
    check out db.etree.org

you will find a lot of jamband stuff especially form bands that allow taping at thier shows and endorse trading (Allmans, Dead, Phish) . You will find plenty of boots of other bands though
Tthe Clash show you bought could easily be traded for..
    here it is in fact

The problem is I really don't have anything to trade. I was gald to find a sight were someone would sell a disc instead of just wanting to trade. It was $16 (incl. shipping) which I thought was fair. I don't own any other bootleg cds.

I used to have quite a few vinyl bootlegs (mainly Zappa and Hendrix) but the quality was always awful and even if I still had them (I don't) I currently don't have the gear to transfer vinyl to cd.

I wouldn't mind getting a copy of the Dead's show from the same festival (even though it wasn't a very good show for them) but, again, without anything to trade I'm not sure how I'd do it.

The sight I got the Clash disc from dealt strictly in Clash boots and nothing else.

some people will do "b & p's" (BLANKS AND POSTAGE) for ya..basically you send the media and return envelope with postage and they just burn it for ya . Not everyone does it but a fair amount will just to help you get a good trading stock going.
thats how I got my collection going and I have a couple hundred shows now.
