Polk is own by Directed Electronics, as is Def Tech and "Boom" and it looks like Sound United is the Directed Electronics division for these brands

Polk and Def Tech under the same umbrella makes for strange bedfellows as they are in DIRECT competition with each other? Don't you think?

I realize that this has been the case for a while, because that's what CORP. mergers DO, gobble up the smaller to become monopolies (if they can--that's their "goal" in any case).

People have been complaining, for example, about the Klipsch group and Energy, etc. Arguing that no good can some of this?

I'm still confused? Is SU supposed to be the THX/ Dolby for DEI?
I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

I remember back in the day, maybe 1979 when my brother and I decided to sell "our" Bose 901's. My dad bought them for us and after maybe 5 years we decided to buy Polk Monitor 10's. I told this story on the forum once upon a time. So my dad not convinced we were doing the right thing and being a Johnson & Johnson executive felt he should call Polk himself. The reason I bring up my father be a J&J executive is that Mathew Polk himself answered the phone. How cool was that?

Matt convinced my father we were doing the right thing. I told a couple audio friends my dad spoke to Matt Polk last night, I thought I was real cool!! That's the pair on 10's I re-veneered and did a x-over upgrade.

DEI Holdings owns 2 divisions, Directed Electronics and Sound United.

Directed Electronics is all automotive security and remote start brands: Viper, Clifford, Python, Smart Start ....

Sound United is comprised of all of the audio brands: Definitive (for more than 10 years), Polk (since 2006), BOOM (founded about 3 years ago)

Definitive, Polk, and BOOM have different distribution, different price points, different technologies, and different design languages.

Thought you guys would like this. We have been finding pairs to a lot of the vintage speakers in the office and cleaning them up to build a physical timeline installation.

Note the logos on the earliest two products.
