To preamp or not

I have Pioneer SA-7500 amp which I want to hook up a cd player.
It doesn't have a cd input, it has an aux input I am using for an MP3 player.
I currently plugged the cd player into the tuner input, it sounds okay. BUT, will this hurt the amp?
OR, should I get a modern preamp with all the inputs that I need?

Any "line level" input is fine - that includes tuner, aux, and the two(?) tape monitor inputs ("Tape Playback").

According to the schematic diagram, the Aux input and the Tuner input are wired to the same point via the selector switch, so I don't see any issue with what you are doing. In essence, the only difference is the label.Sources: Technics SL1200MKII | SME3009 Tonearm | Monster Alpha 1 MC cartridge | Oppo UDP203 disk player | Nikko NT-790 analog tuner | Musical Fidelity Trivista 21 DAC | Preamp: Threshold SL-10 | Amplifier: Threshold Stasis 2 | Speakers: Snell Acoustics C/V | Kimber 12-TC bi wire speakers | Analysis plus Oval 1 preamp to amp | Wireworld Eclipse 7 DAC to Preamp | Wireworld eclipse digital IC Oppo to DAC | Audioquest Quartz tuner to preamp |

That's pretty much what I do .Going from my Yamaha rx-v665 avr audio outs into my Onkyo P301 pre/amp into the tuner section inputs. This way I get I-net radio , my dock w/ i-pod, and F.M. and t.v.Cdp and tt/ phono inputs go direct. This affords me a healthy dose of flexabiliy and variety into my 2-chll rig.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E
