Same here. It is reviewed in the September issue of the absolute sound. Speakers with DSP room correction are going to be hard to compete against.

It's also reasonably priced at a little less than $20K. Give me a version without the built in subs and I might go for it.

That's a pretty speaker. I heard their Whisper XD(?) 2 years ago, it sounded very nice.

Ya know Fox, I fall in that camp too. Built in subs seem to not do it for me but I have a feeling everything I hate about them Bill would not accept those draw backs. The man has a way of dealing with certain design flaws and making them non issues. Can't say he has with these or not as I haven't heard them but reviews seem to be very positive from those that have.

One of the reasons I went for the Focus 20/20's....no built in amps for subs and monsters in the lower regions all on their own. Seems like everything north of those has a built in ice amp, even PBN Montana has gone that direction in their big monster floorstanders. Is that the future....I dunno, but I have to let my ears be the judge.

One thing I don't get is how are you suppose to match the speed of the ice amp that controls the lower woofers with your own amp controlling the rest of the speaker......or am I missing something here ?

I like my built in subs. It gives the music a fuller sound.
Btw, those 2 drivers on the bottom, are 12" subs, not the 8"s that I assumed:eek:

My issue is I am not a bass-hole, and 90% of the music I listen to has little bass energy. What is there can be easily handled by the system amps, and passive speakers. Built in amps are just one more thing to break, in my mind. Also, without the amps, the price should be a little lower. However, I bet they would make a great HT/music setup.

Those do look nice and have good drivers in them, unlike the monster Chinese speakers I saw on the other side of the Pacific. The Chinese are producing very nice looking (piano gloss finishes) on monster speakers designed to "appear", and "impress" as Higher End. But once you hear them, you know the outside is just a pretender. It's a shame because this is, I believe, affecting how people might perceive even these speakers as the finish is over the top, some? I'm sure they're great. but you can over do the outside!

As for your amp keeping up with the ice amp for the Suns that should not be a issue. I would guess that when it does it's room measurements it calculates the delay and then applies that to the sub amp so it matches up.

I'd love to hear the treble on these. Good ribbon tweeters are where it's at (think RAAL)... and the super-tweeter on these is crossed over at 8k. The larger tweet can focus on 3k-8k only, and the super tweet specifically handles 8k and up. Very nice. I wonder if they'll use that combo on any smaller towers or bookies?

To answer my own question: Yes. Smaller towers with the dual ribbon tweets = Focus SE and Signature SE. I'd love to hear them.

Since the speed of sound is constant except in large variations of gas temperature or density, there's probably nothing you can do to change that except listen under water.

Those are nothing like RAAL ribbons, they're AMT's and are closer to Heil lineage.

To each his own I guess. Me, I like the Legacy sound. Even more importantly, the wife does too. I'm not one to pick apart gear as to what parts are used because frankly, I could give a rats arse. It's how those collective parts sound coming out is all I care about. That's basically how I judge gear anyway, I don't pay attention to name brands, the flavor of the month parts used, dac chips, who's caps are better, blah blah. It's what comes out the other end that counts.

Which goes back to another thread, I've heard great parts in name brands that sounded like dog poo, and cheap parts in not so famous brands that sounded better than they had a rite to. That by no means defines either end of that spectrum, just that the final sound is what counts in my book and I assume in most music lovers books too.

I hear ya man, too many variables to say why that is in your situation. From my experiences though, what ever house sound you like chasing down that synergy thing is a ****. I don't kick speakers to the curb unless I explore everything they can do. Same with gear/cables.
