As we age, generally speaking, our quality of life in regard to physical mobility goes down. While we know much of this due to lifestyle, and vigorous exercise can result in a better quality of life, in the long run it is a losing battle. So, it would seem that anything that can improve our lives should be investigated. While steroids have gotten a bad rap, I suspect that if used under controlled conditions they can improve our bodies, and by extension, our quality of life.

At 80, this guy seems pretty spry and fit. I hope 20 years from now I am still exercising like this guy. I would like to know when this guy started using steroids, and what dosage he uses.

Alcohol and cigarettes are legal, but not the evil juice.

Here's a movie I watched last year that gives a VERY interesting perspective on the whole issue with Steroids, which I happen to agree with. If it's legal, then out of sight, out of mind. Put an "Illegal" label on it, then it's nothing but evil doer stuff. Women can get breast implants, botox injections and any number of plastic surgery type enhancements. We've all seen some horror stories with those. But...they're all legal.

There are testosterone replacement therapy clinics all over the country. They are legal and covered by many insurance plans.

Depends. As a result of legit prednisone use for crohns I had osteoporosis of my spine and hips at the age of 25 due to calcium loss. So it's not all in all a good thing, there are bad side effects.

Have to agree with ES. I had to take small doses of cortico-steroids for about a year when I was working in China because of a severe Eczema condition precipitated by the wonderfully TOXIC atmosphere and super DRY air mass in Beijing. I was told by my physician when I returned to the U.S. that the usual prescription for such a problem are topical steroids because oral versions get into the system and cause SOFT TISSUE damage over time (that's BAD--I don't know how that guy is lifting "anything" without tearing up his TENDONS?). About a year after my return I ripped an Achilles tendon in my left leg and had to go through surgery and rehab. Well over a year later I'm still trying to equalize the calf muscle in my left leg with the, now, overly DEVELOPED right calf.

Hormones and steroids. I don't think so. I prefer the Jack LaLanne model, he remained pretty fit till the end (which I believe was pneumonia). I also AGREE with the guy in the video about STRESSING the body with weights! I don't think there is a better thing that you can do than TAX the body with reasonably heavy weights for as long as you can (also doing some cardio, of course) because I do believe that lifting heavier does MORE to maintain higher than normal testosterone levels and muscle mass as the body ages. It is, of course, a losing battle, as you can't maintain optimum strength forever but if you look at the miserable upper body strength that the average male over 65 has, I rest my case. I try to get out there a couple of times a week. And though in my late 50s I can no longer lift what I could at 30-35. My numbers are not that far off. Maybe down about 15 percent from the peak. A lot of the decline is due to having to be "more" careful with aging joints. WARM up thoroughly, stretch, lift some LIGHTER weights first and then hit the heavier stuff. Do the same when you finish the workout and spend some time attending to your abdominal muscles if you plan NOT to take out your BACK! Also, don't stress the back. Benching for heavy sets, and Smith machine squats, throw in some Pull-ups in between to work opposing muscle groups and stretch between bench sets. My training partner is 12 years younger than I and I have no problem keeping up with him!

Heavy leg workouts and dead lifting are great for boosting T levels.

With moderation, some steroids really not that bad. The problem is, once most guys get their hands on that stuff, moderation goes out the window.
