Hello I'm looking for some advice on some good bike locks, my son is starting High School and would like to ride his bike.
This bike is not very expensive but it's the last item my wife and I bought him before she passed away, so I would be extremely upset and I'm sure my son would be as well if it got stolen.
So looking for recommendations on good bike locks?
Thanks

    Jhayman,

U-bolt locks work great. The real key is educating him about how to secure the bike. His best bet is to have two U-blot locks, so thathe can lock both wheels as well.

The u-lock is best but use the smallest one to get the job done. If you use a lock that is too large a pipe or jack can be inserted in the space and the bike is gone. The link above doesn't show that removing the front wheel and placing if next to the rear wheel and then locking front wheel, rear wheel, frame, and rack all together is the best way to lock up with one u-lock. The other option is to use a u-lock to lock rear wheel, frame and rack together and use a cable to loop around the front wheel. That way you don't need to remove the front wheel. Sorry for your loss and I hope your son can find the best way to keep his bike safe.

You could always go for a Kryptonite Forgetaboutit chain and lock. I use a couple New York Noose chains to lock up my atv when we go riding.

Botta Bing Botta Boom! Kryptonite makes great products but their better stuff can be expensive. I've used the U locks and the chains over the years and they both work great....just have to find what works for the individual and how high is bike theft in the area. I use to work in a bike shop ages ago and the products have gotten better but nothing has changes...make sure one is smart when locking the bike up...and two locks is the ultimate lock up...something one will see in places like New York....I think the messengers started this ages ago:

Yep and a seat post clamp that is not a quick release or quick steal.
