replacing RT55 tweeters
I need to replace a tweeter (so I may as well do both speakers) on an RT55 - NOT an RT55"i" - speaker. It appears the dust cap is "melting"(?)
I have one speaker building project under my belt, so I'm no expert, but I AM an artist with a good steady hand...
Two questions for this forum:
1)are the tweeters available? I don't see them on the Polk parts list. If so, what is the part number?
2)How do I remove and install the tweeters? I think I may need a step-by-step. There are no visible screws holding then in, as in most other speaker designs(like the one I built).
Any help from this forum would be greatly appreciated.
P.S.-If anybody has made any other helpful mods to this particular speaker(replacing caps, adding insulation, etc.) that improved the sound, feel free to speak up! Thanks.
Dave

I thought I saw your thread on the PE board.
I'd suggest you give Ken Swauger a call, at Polk customer service: 1-800-377-7655 ext. 891. Tell him you're a forum member. I've heard of the "melting" tweeter problem before, but I can't remember what the details were. Whatever it is, Ken will be able to help you. Polk's customer service is top-notch!

Thanks, jcaut
The tweeter situation resolved(thanks, Lauren @ Polk CS), the remainder of my question is still UNANSWERED:
While I've got this speaker opened up, do any of you have any suggestions on worthwhile mods that have improved the sound of your Polks such as 1)upgrading the internal wiring (2)upgrading caps or other Xover parts(3)exchanging/adding insulation.
C'mon guys & gals, we've all heard about even Radio Shack speakers that have been greatly improved w/just a few tweaks for just a few dollars. I refuse to believe that exchanging some of these mass-produced factory parts can't do some good for this fairly decent bookshelf.
