Bought my father a Denon 3312 receiver because I loved mine so much. Well needless to say we hooked the denon 3312 up ran Audssey and the speakers just sound so lifeless. The imaging is much better by miles but there is no real punch like the old H/K amp had. The speakers just sound like they are some tiny little wall hangers. Could it just be that the internal amp of the new denon doesn't have the current of the old H/K..going to bring my acurus a250 amp over tomorrow and see if that helps. Curious of opinions. Thanks, Chris.

That's a fairly robust AVR at 125 watts per cannel.

You may want to try running the auto-cal program, and trying it in pure direct audio mode.

That is a possibility. Denons have been going on a "diet" the last few years. That 3312 is over 4 pounds lighter than my AVR 2807 which is only rated 110 watts x 7. So those 125 watt ratings are suspect as is the 110 on my older unit!

Just throw a power amp on it and you'll probably be OK!

Did you set up the receiver ? Check the settings ? Go into the menu and make sure your speaker levels are set to 0 as a starting point and put it into direct mode. Are the speakers set to large or small in the receiver ? No sense adding an amp if you haven't gone and looked at all the settings.

On my Pioneer receiver sc27, I find if I run the Mcacc ( like Audssey) it makes my Polk rti12 sound terrible, hollow, and lifeless. I went to a different preset and wiped it out back to flat or factory and the polks came alive. Try it running it flat or without correction and manually add any eq back in that it may need.

    Agreed ^^^

By the time I'm done tweeking the settings after running the calibration, it looks totally different. But, it is a starting point and rarely left as a finished point.
