Is it time to move on from Denon 2910 to Oppo BDP 105

Hello,
I have used Denon 2910 for over 6 years now. Mainly for listening to CD. I was wondering if its time to upgrade?

I wanted some opinion. Since a bit of time has passed do you guys think there will be noticable increase in quality of sound moving from Denon 2910 to Oppo BDP 105.
I mainly want to use the system for CDs both Analog and Digital. Are there other choice out there which is 100 or less?

Well, from what 105 owners say, and what Oppo 105 reviews say, there is no comparison. The Denon is a universal DVD player while the Oppo 105 is a universal Bluray player with an audiophile analog section.

So what are you saying exactly? Is one better than the other? That is, based on the reviews that you read. Not experienced.

    Now it all makes sense..

Just providing data for the OP. Like anything else, he can take it or leave it. Now if the OP thinks a run of the mill universal DVD player is equal to the Oppo 105 then that is his choice. However, my money would say the Denon would be more comparable to the Oppo 83, which is inherently inferior to the Oppo 105 for analog playback. And that is what the OP is interested in.

I have the 103 and really like the sound I compared with my Onkyo C-S5VL using CD's and SACD's and the 103 was better. I used for CD's, SACD's, MP3 and Movies. I use the HDMi and Analog outs for music and that will depend if I am using the AVR or the Pre Amp.

Ok, I have 3 days off work. I will ask to take it home Tuesday or sometime next week.
I too would like to hear it. We normally install rotel CD players but for what ever reason we have a few Oppo BD players on hand.

Last night I connected my Pioneer BD320 and played it side by side with my Rotel ( same CDs at the same time) and I think I liked the Pioneer better. I will have to remove the MIT cables in my next test. it was the only difference between the two players.
After I pick one I will compare it to the Oppo, but not before I compare the winner to the Pioneer Elite BD player I have hanging out in my closet.

Hmmm....I also have the BD320, and spinning disc's between that and the Pioneer AVI59......the 59 wins hands down. I would imagine the oppo being as good if not better.

I have an Oppo 93, and it is fantastic for movies, but I prefer my Pioneer D9 MkII for CD/SACD.

If you are just using this player for 2-channel music with CD's, I think you will achieve greater sound quality by keeping the Denon, using its digital output, and adding a $1k DAC, rather than just replacing the Denon with a $1K player (in this case the Oppo 105).

If you want to gain Bluray playback, HDMI, 3D, or any other features that the Denon does not have, then that's a different story.

It took the right pairing of cables and some dynamat to bring out the capability of my 51fd. It's performing so well now that the only real reason a 105 is on the short list is for digital processing/streaming and the fact that I'd like a bdp downstairs as well.

Glad you said that and took the time to do so. Whenever I change out a piece I swap in and out at least 4 sets of cables before finding one that synergizes well.

I have the 3910 which is the big brother to the 2910 and the 105 is a big step up in every department.

I just moved up to the bdp95 and it is an awesome player. You can find them for $900. I read where at least 2 people who have both the 95 and 105 gave a slight nod to the 95 as being a little smoother for audio.

Thanks for all the replies. It was interesting to hear all the opinions.

@falconcry72 do you have a suggestion for a DAC around $1000?
I am trying to get to best sound quality in 2.1 system. I was looking at oppo because of its USB Asynchronous DAC. It will allow me to play my lossless music through my laptop and utilize its DAC. But I am guessing that a dedicated DAC will do the same.

For Blueray player I will soon have the xBox One. not sure how the quality is going to be but I am not too concerned with my video beyond a point than I am with mu Audio.

My opinion, for what it is worth, is to go for the 105.
Keeping the Denon and buying a DAC is just adding another set of cables to the mix.
In the 105, you not only get a fantastic DAC, but you ALSO get all the other stuff along with it including a great transport, streaming functionality, etc.

I guess I just want to have the least amount of components to achieve my goal.

I think I will agree with you 100% if OPPO's DAC is as good as a DAC for around $1000. That will pretty much decide it. And that's what I am trying to find out/investigate.

Yeah, the Sabre DAC*s* (It has 2) in the 105 are fantastic and rival ones in the $700-$1000 range.
I just like the idea of getting a fantastic transport, great DACs and a media streamer all in one box.
