Yeah, I stayed with the pine, against all your recommendations. It turned out pretty nice (especially for our first project of this type), and is quite sturdy. I'll hopefully have pics of it tomorrow...

Looks pretty durable (a little rough, but hey). Are you going to sand/stain it? The only thing that I'd do as an additional fitting is to put a 2" (or however big enough to cover the shelf supports) along the front two sides and top to hide them. Good work.....

well, I hadn't really thought about staining it or anything yet. We bought the boards as finished pine, so they were smooth to begin with. I still sanded them to remove the stampings and marks on them. Other than that, we just knocked it together in an afternoon. I was more concerned with getting my equipment set up appropriately than how it looked.

For a pretty rough project (and the first of it's kind by us) I think it looks pretty good. I wish we would've noticed the big-**** knot in the front of the 3rd shelf up. It would look nicer if that were not there.

The bottom shelf we tacked down to the supports just to give it some extra rigidity, but the rest of the shelf boards are just glued to the supports. We also added the triangles in the top corners after it was done, to try and stablize it even more. It will move if you push on it, but not much. I certainly don't fear for my receiver's survival like I used to :-).

    Congrats nadams,

Looks good and if you're happy with it then that's all that matters.
Do you have triangles on the bottom too? That might prevent it from racking futher.

I'm impressed that you got it done in an afternoon. Some other members will attest to my plodding progress on my own rack. Almost finished the door guys. ;)

    regards

    Hey!......knot bad for a beginner!
And the best thing is, if you ever decide to sell the entire setup it's already crated for shipping! :p

Nice job! I agree with Brett to run a strip up both sides to cover the shelf supports.

Thanks for the compliments, folks. I'll look into putting those strips up the sides. It probably would make it look nicer. Also, I wish we had some extra length on the boards so I could've made the top overhang on either side, instead of being totally square all around.

So far, I've had no problems with marking on the boards. None of the shelves are bowing, even the one with the receiver on it. We'll see how it holds up in the coming months....
