Go RT35i. They are better matched to your mains and center. The 300i's, I believe still have the 3/4" black soft dome tweeter. The RT35i's have the 1" Tri-laminate tweeter. I had the 300i's and sold'em off for a pair of 25i's to better match my CS400 and RT55. There is a noticable difference in sound quality between the tweeters.

I have the f/x300i's for my rears and really like them. I have RT1000p fronts and a CS400i center. I would have gone with the 500's but I did not have the room on the walls. I had tried the RT25i's, which sounded OK, but I did not like the direct sound, that is knowing exactly where the sound came from. I prefer the sound of the 300's over the 25i's. This is only my opinion, but keep in mind that the bookshelf speaker is going to sound different from the surround speaker. The surround speaker is going to give you a more open sound, where the bookshelf will give you a more direct.

i second ron on the 35i's. they will match a bit better. i am running 35's and 25's as rears now, several feet behind the listening position and faced towards each other/opposite wall, not towards the listening position. this helps to 'mask' the location of the speaker.

I went from MII's to 300's and setteled on 800's... I know thats not the same as the 35's..but same type speaker and realy like it with the direct.. IMO... 5channel music sounds a lot better too. Btw... I have the Yammie 795a...wich is the model prior to yours..

I vote the fx300i's, that is what they are made.

I would say go with what suits your setup best. RT if you are in a setup that is a monopole enviroment or the FX if you can place them in the correct place.

I went with the FX/300i as rears set to bi-pole and the open non direct sound is great. when I changed and set them to di-pole.. the sound was to off center and I could easily tell where the rear surrounds were coming from. Also, in di-pole the sound was off center from my listening position. I think in di-pole mode they need to be mounted on the side of you instead of behind you as in bi-pole mode.
My system if anyone is interested so far.
Mains RT800i's (Cherry)
center CS400i
sub PSW350
rears FX/300i's (bi-pole mode)

I have essentially the same set up. differences is an onkyo amp and rt 35i.... I havemt put the system together yet but i am wondering if I should upgrade to the 300i as surrounds.... I paid 120 clams each for the rt 35i's.. so the 300's would be cash out deal. anyone have any good input on inwall speakers? that is another option.....
-
i would recommend going with stand alone speakers vs. in-wall speakers unless space prohibits the use of stand alones... stand alone's are going to perform better, the benifits of in-wall's are mainly aesthetics and space savings...

how bout the 35i vs. the 300i? 35i has the same tweet woof combo as the 800/400 combo but are the 300 a better chioce for surround?

it really depends on room set-up and your listening preference when it comes down to it between the 35i's and f/x300i's. i have rt35i's and rt25i's for rear's. 35's for the side rears firing @ each other behind listening position, and 25's for center rear's firing forward ceiling mounted. i love the way it sounds, although i am considering gettting some f/x500's to replace the 35i's and put the 35i's up front with the 800's (a little trappedunderice treatment up front:D ).... but for now, i am very happy with the 35i's. my best advice would be; if you can demo both at home in your space, hooked up to your equipment....
good luck...
