Which AVR?
Hey guys. I've finally decided on my speakers. I'm going with RTi8's, RTiA6, RTiA3's and not sure yet on the sub. Next step is to decide upon an AVR. I can't figure out what to do. I know it needs pre-outs, but that's about it. I'd like to spend no more than $300 - I'm ok with used or refurb. Any suggestions?
I thought about the Onkyo TX-NR609 7.2-Channel 3-D Ready Network A/V Receiver, but wasn't sure. Thanks in advance for your help!

This is a nice deal, and seems to have an HDMI issue which just may be the config

If your going to get into the rti series, consider something with pre outs...

I do not recommend any Onkyo product right now... Their AVRS have been suffering from serious failures for the past six years... Bad HDMI boards, IDE connectors, display boards. I had two Onkyos and both suffered from heat failure, even though the units were well ventilated and had 120mm fans running over the top vents.

I have an 808 a 509 and a 360 and no problems at all. Do get pre-outs for future needsIf your going to get into the rti series, consider something with pre outs...

What does it mean when it says: Preout Subwoofer (2 x mono)
Does that mean I could connect amp to sub and the two RTi8's? -
you can run 2 subs, which don't produce stereo so (mono) so l/r channel information goes to them.

Correct. Look at the link I posted and check the rear pic on it. You'll see the pre out section. I made the same mistake in the beginning and ended up buying a avr with pre outs a year later. The purchase will hurt you a bit more, but it will be a better unit. It will also last longer when you get the upgrade bug. Good luck! -

Other than HDMI, Onkyo has includes two component video inputs (one output) and four composite video (one output). There are seven pairs of RCA inputs for stereo audio as well as 9.2 outputs for integrating external amps (7.2 channels plus front channels) and line outs for Zones 2 and 3.POLK SDA 2.3 TLS BOUGHT NEW IN 1990, Gimpod/Sonic Caps/Mills RDO-198

300 bucks won't get you much in the way of a receiver. Save some more coin and look a Yamaha advantage series or Pioneer SC series of receivers. By pre-outs, we mean look for 5.1 or 7.1 preouts. The sub preouts are just for a subwoofer, not adding an amp down the road.HT SYSTEM-

I concur, it is almost a guarantee their HDMI boards will fail. Outstanding receiver otherwise. Perhaps their latest models have rectified the situation, but one time is enough to keep me away. -
Where are you located? Save a little more and keep an eye on your local craigslist, ebay, audio forum sites for a Pioneer Elite SC AVR. Figure $400-$600...and the amps on these are so stout that you might be happy with it and may not feel the need to get an outboard amp to drive the RTi speaks? 140 Watts x 7 ICEpower Class-D tech.
Here are a couple of auctions...There were $1800-$2200 AVRS's:
