Made in 1997, sold for $900/pair. Cary Christie original design that was favorably reviewed in The Sensible Sound.

Small(er) floorstander with dual 5.25" drivers in an MTM array with a 1" diamond-hardened dome tweeter. Side firing 10" woof, bi wire/amp capable.

Don't have any specs, but from what I *hear*, they seem REAL solid down 30Hz and start to check out in the mid-20's. Picked em up for a franklin, and LOVING them.

Life is not suck.

Cheers,
Russ

What kind of speaker cable do you have those hooked up with? Nice and neat!

Thanks Hbomb, you should be happy that I found these - seeing as you will get the monster RTA15tl's now.

THAT, was a deal to die for. Now I don't feel bad about not selling you the $26.50 Kef's. Give the woofers about three feet of breathing room from the nearest wall is what I'm thinking. GREAT score. Absolutely great. **** you, you stiff. During that first image you shot, were you groveling or what?

I probably have that issue of $ensible Sound, and if you give me those speakers, I'll make a copy of it and send it to you.

Everyone around here must just be a bunch of eefin hords, finds like that just don't happen here. And if they do they always want more than what it is worth. The pawn shops are not to great either, the one that I usually go to check out has quit taking in speakers of any kind. She says that she cannot make anything on them because everyone steals the drivers out of them and I know that she is full of ****, if that were the case she could just put the damn things right in plain view in front of the counter and plus every trip that I have ever made in there I have never seen one driver missing out of the ones that she did have when she had them.

Thanks guys, I probably could have gotten them for less, but it was a lady friend of the family, so what the hell, a franklin it is.

Troy, they do look like the Hi-Res series, and share a lot of the same design features.

George, that issue number is 68 by the way. Xerox me a copy, and I'll get a shot of me shirtless in front of them for you. Send me the actual magazine, I go full nude.

I can already tell they are a little fussy with placement - but that will work itself out in due time.

    Cheers,
    Russ

Super cool! How much power are you feeding them? What amp? With the side firing woofs, I bet they like a lot of juice. The woofers are passive right?

Tell us how they sound. Mids/Highs?
LOL! For the first time GG is jealous:D. Now you know how we feel about you:D.

Jealous? I'm not sure I'd use that term.

Not quite ready to trade in a pair of 9's, with 2 x 12" side firing acoustic suspension woofers per speaker, on opposite sides of the cabinet, for a pair of 310's. It's just they are a pair of AR speakers I haven't owned......... yet. It was the DEAL friend. It's always the DEAL.

How you feel about HIM, or how you feel about me? Doesn't matter in the big scheme of things. If YOU signed my paycheck, or shared my bed, I MIGHT be concerned. But that's not the case is it?

I LOVE Acoustic Research speakers. If I could turn the hands of time backwards, and pick any speaker I've ever owned....it would without hesitation be the AR9Lsi Towers I had in the mid eighties. Back in them days "towers" were "towers." 120lbs per speaker, and the sweetest tunes and the deepest, cleanest bass I've ever heard....man, those things were music.

Come listen to my SRS 2's, they've got 20lbs a speaker on those AR's. ;)

Actually, I think these *little* 310's weigh as much as RTA15's... which are a MUCH bigger speaker.

Solid little ****, God love em.

    Steveinaz,

"I" hear you loud and clear on those AR-9LS's, but your words are wasted on this forum.

    Russman,
I've done tons of searches myself, to no avail--mostly looking for used ones for sale. I can't find anything on the 9Lsi. What a pity too, it was a fantastic speaker. It had (working from memory):

    1ea downward firing 12" woofer
    1ea 10" woofer, forward facing
    (I think) 2 midranges, 6"
    1ea 1" Tweeter
Single set of 5-way binding post (not bi-wirable)

They were about 52" tall with a black front, walnut sides/top
about 14" deep, and about 14" wide. The grilles were removable. The cabinets were done in real veneer, with very good fit and finish.

There was red writing (eye-candy) stating specs of each driver or something on the front baffles which were black in color.

At the time I had them (I'm thinking 1985?) I was using the following:

    Soundcraftsmen A5002 stereo amplifier (250 watts/rms)
    Carver C-1 Preamp
Carver Tuner (Can't remember the model)
Sony CDP-1 (I think, it was an early 14bit CD Player)
    Teac X2000RBL Reel to Reel
Yamaha Linear tracking turntable (can't recall model number)

I'll see if I can dig up a pic and scan/post it. I'm pretty sure I have a picture of this system...

    8" cone midbass
    1.5" dome midrange
    .75" dome tweeter

Found some other stuff too, I just didn't see it earlier. Here is a zip file with the brochure scans. I know it only mentions the AR9LS, maybe the 'i' was just a later version, with slight changes.

Yes, the "i" just simply had the red lettering I spoke of above--I don't think there were any spec changes.

    Cool information!
