Man, this month has been killer. New A/C, new Furnace, new Dryer, and yesterday picked up an 09 Lexus RX350. Talk about cash poor. Funny thing, after I made the deal for the car I handed the dealer an envelope with untold thousands in hundred dollar bills. He says, " What....are you Tony Soprano ? " Got a good chuckle out of me because my neighbors call me that. On top of that, I had my old crazy Canadian neighbors back in town and they stayed with me for 4 days. My house was party central for 4 days. Now, 40 bottles of wine and 3.5 cases of beer later the guys at the liquor store are starting to look at me funny. Of course had other neighbors to help with that.

Anyway, just moaning a bit is all. My wallet needs a vacation that's for sure. At least some of this spending was fun anyway. I'll post some pics of the new ride later. Smokey granite exterior with black interior and every bell and whistle you can imagine. You know what they say about a happy wife.....

Yeah, no paper trail on a car purchase. Just a title, registration, plates, insurance, and the dealer's records...

Since my family owns the dealership? Yes I do, and I guarantee I get better prices than you have ever got from a private seller. Tony also stated he gave the dealer cash.

But even from a private party, there is a huge paper trail. Unless you drive the car without registering it, or getting plates. Good luck with that.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

So why did you ask about doing business with car dealers? I'm also wondering why you would want the hide the fact that you bought a car?

Nice how you play up your good fortune. I know a guy that owns 37 dealerships in 4 states, another that has four here in CA, and yet another that owns more than 150 dealerships, and the guy that owns the largest Ford dealership in the world. What do they all have in common? They are all a bunch of egotistical self-centered douches...

Now that's funny! Do you have any idea who it is you are "accusing" of that? lol LMAO!

    Ha, ha!

Tony, you remind me of my wife--she pays for "everything" in full. No we don't own anything as "upscale" as a Lexus...probably never will, I'm too cheap to spend that much on basic transportation. lol

Randy, glad your daughter is safe, but that has me wondering as my 15 year old starts driving school in a week?

Your wife and I would get along just fine Cnh! With the exception of my school loan 2 years ago, I haven't paid anyone any interest EVER! And paying the interest on the loan infuriated me so, that I just bit the bullet and paid it off the same year.

You misunderstand me. In fact, you'd probably be having a few cold ones with them and reveling in an unbridled praise of Free Market economics. That's why it's funny. You're tagging the free market boys (who agree with "you") and you don't even know it?

But I can't fault you because you haven't been around long enough to see all the endless debates on this site. No need to be shaking in ones boots but rather changing them because you stepped in it.

You're right there. And we'd all be in a better economic world if everyone paid those bills in this manner rather then running up endless debt. That is something we can all agree on regardless of what side of the party line we might be on!

Man, you guys know how to turn a good hearted post .

Just to be straight, I didn't pay it all in cash first off. Second, yes....dealers charge more and why shouldn't they considering their overhead. But.....when buying a used car especially certain criteria has to be met that private sellers can't do. That's called a warranty. When you spend that kind of coin on a used car, you don't want to be stuck with a lemon from a private seller. Say what you will about Lexus, they treat you with respect and stand behind their cars and trucks....at least from my experiences anyway.

In my life time and having numerous dealings with dealers and their tactics, I've accorded dealers the same distain I have for lawyers. Lexus was the first dealership to make buying a car painless. They work at keeping brand loyalty and it shows. They may or may not be everyones cup of tea when it comes to a car or truck, all I can say is that my tea says Lexus on it.

Enough of that, I'm surprised nobody commented on my neighbors sucking down 40 bottles of wine and almost 4 cases of beer. Plus I had to feed this mob too. I did help a tad in that regard however.
