LSIM 705 tweeter
I have a pair of LSIM 705 and my friend's kid accidently pressed his finger into the thin diaphragm of the tweeter. There is no physical damage I can see but is this going to do harm to the tweeter? What is that thin layer of thin plastic like diaphragm on the tweeter do anyways? Is it just a dust cap? And also, the thin diaphragm of the tweeter on one of the LSIM 705 and my LSIM 704c is very clear and I can see though into the inner part of the tweeter very easily, however the other one on my LSIM 705 is very blury and not clear. Is this normal?

If you can't see physical damage, and it doesn't odd, it's probably okay.
BTW, kids aren't the only ones at fault for this. One summer during my early college years, I came home for being out for the evening, and my father was sitting with a glass of wine watching Sports Center. "I was listening to your speakers, and I might have done something to them..." At the time I had a pair of B&Ws with metal dome tweeters, and I go over to find that he had pushed in the dome on one! "They are nice sounding speakers." My father is a very smart and educated man, so I blamed it on the wine, and luckily a replacement dome was easy to source and install... -
cannot tell the different in sound. but just like to find out if anyone know what that covering thin diaphragm do? Polk Audio tech support told me that it is just a dust cap. If you leave the grills on, the tweeters are out of sight and out of temptation. If you decide to leave them off and someone does something stupid to them you have no one to blame but yourself.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

The phase plug is not a thin piece, I would have described the phase plug as the piece that looks like a nipple.

FYI, dispersion patters between similar drivers(same motor) with and without a phase plug.

Hi Jim,
Slightly off topic: Been researching my next speakers and like my sub build thinking DIY. In my search I found you had started a pair of Statements. Did you ever finish? -
