I originally had assumed that all drivers would be shot until I got into them. It's true - replacing the tweeters and finding original MW's while updgrading the xo's is the best bet.

Thanks for all the input and feedback.

Hey wwresto. Are you in the Reno/Tahoe area? I believe those are the same speakers I saw on Craigslist this past week here in Reno. They were a screaming good price, but from the pictures and description it looked like more than I was willing to deal with. It looks like you will have a great set of speakers when all is said and done. If you are in the area, let me know. It's always good to know a fellow Polkie in the area.

I would get all the needed MW's from Ebay rather than the Chinese replacements, but that's just me.

Agreed. But the MW6511's may be difficult to get as originals, but you'll find some after not too long. Patience.

I have bought a replacement 6511 (granted a number of years back, about 4 now adn things may be different now) and it ended up having problems. I highly recommend the originals (IMO)........

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

The originals, at least the 1989 model I tore the paper (MW-6510) label off the magnet were made in mexico just like the xovers.

The 6511 and the 6503 are going to take time to get originals.

Yea the MW drivers are the same for the 1.2/1.2TL and it looks like you have 1.2TL x-overs the 27uf caps on both the lables are bogus oh brother  insider 007 stuff.

Any So somebody just stuck that SL-2000 in there to confuse me more.

Kinda like when Polk sent me a MM 6510 instead of a MW 6510 back then 1991 I didn't know any better I thought the replacement was an update the cone was much stiffer, a car speaker.

This is going to be a great project free speakers, wait till your friend hears them in a few months

When I call Polk I like to order from Helen Yarbor she has been there 30+ years. very helpful

I am in Reno. These will be utilized in my office at the shop. Less than ideal room but better WAF (she's rarely around here).

Yeah, I don't think I could get those by my wife in the house either. She has issues with my SDA 2Bs being "huge", and I have them in a room in the basement. Anyway, glad you got them. Looking forward to seeing how they turn out after you get them fixed up.

Started burning up my paypal/credit card this weekend. VR3 received some yesterday (awesome communication by the way), as did Polk this morning. Tweeters on back order - but that gives me time to build the xo's and r&r the cabs! Might even have to get a little nutsy and fire up the VMC for some addons

Sounds great, did you ask if they had stock on the MW and price?
The 6511 are real tough to find and the 6503 are not a cakewalk.

I read it as he has 2 and they are $65 each + 13.23 shipping

    Quantity:1 2 available

then below he says.......This is a tested and working pair of Polk 6503 mid range drivers from a pair of SDA Signature Reference Series speakers with date code of 1985. They have been tested and work perfectly. Cones and surrounds are excellent with minimal wear. Other speakers are being shown but this is for a pair (two) drivers only. Please see my other auctions for other parts from this amazing top of the line speaker system. Thank you!

I guess you could "add to cart" to know for sure, but yea for the pair it's a good deal

I've gotten original 6511's on eBay in great condition. They're out there. Automated searches with email alerts are your friend...
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I owe pictures...they're together for listening - but not *done*. The new xo boards and components went together nicely - thanks VR3/Gimpod. I'm running all new tweeters and 5 of the replacement MW6503's. The top/bottom hardwoods need to still be stripped and refinished - but time will be at a premium for a while so I went ahead and put everything together today. Improved mw sealing, a touch more damping material in strategic spots for now and that's it. Will do more *tweaks* as time allows - want to evaluate each as they go in.

I let them play for a few hours while finishing up in the shop before giving a listen.

I'm so totally stoked - my 30 minute quick session after work became 2 hours.
