I want to switch to Verizon, and I want a smart phone, but I don't want to pay $90+/ month.
I know, I'm a cheap bastahd!
Looking for feedback on this service.
TIA

Oh, don't worry about that my friend, you have to be frugal in today's world. Can't comment on that service but I have been using Boost mobile at 50 clams a month with no problems on my smart phone.

I use it, felt kind of dirty setting it up initally! I was paying Verizion 55 a month for a 'dumb phone'. In my area it uses AT&T service, which is great on the main drags, but not as great in rural areas. I'm fairly certain it uses AT&T everywhere, and at 48/month after taxes I'm very happy. MAKE SURE that you do not cancel Verizion before switching if you want to keep your old number, your Verizion account will need to be active to do the port. Overall, I'm very happy with the service and think it was a good choice. I love anything without a contract. FWIW I'm using an unlocked Google (LG) Nexus 4, which is a rock star of a phone that should serve me for the next two or three years. I know dropping 300+ on a phone hurts, but look at it this way, the 50ish a month in savings that you get will add up quick to pay for the phone. Good luck!

I've had it since last September and it's great. $45.00 month plus 1.33 tax. No limits on internet, talk or text. No contracts! Iphones are now accepted. I set it up to renew every month on my CC, however, you can get it even cheaper if you buy a 6 month card in advance (I think you can even do a year in advance to save even more). Bought a Samsung Galaxy Proclaim smartphone for 150.00 but they are even cheaper now almost a year later.

Hmmmmmmm, may have to look into this. However I have 3 lines I would need (wife, myself, and mother in law) so the costs would be different of course.

We had it for about 6 months. If everything works as it should, it's a good deal. But you will want to shoot yourself in the face if you ever have to call their support line.

My wife and I have been using Straight talk for years. Not one issue. The phones were cheap, the plan was cheap and it worked better than Sprint, Nextel and AT&T for coverage. Just because it's associated with Wal-Mart doesn't mean it's a crappy service. Get a phone that runs on the Verizon network and you are golden. I only recently cut off my Straight talk phone [very conveniently might I add, no contract and all that] because of business demands and the need for a smart phone that was compatible with our setup. If this wasn't the case, I'd still be a very satisfied customer of Straight Talk. My wife still is.

I read many stories about customer service nightmares, I can not add any. All of my experiences were quick, simple and resolved quickly. I guess if I were to complain about anything, it would be that some of the CS personnel were hard to understand at times but I get that almost everywhere in today's world. I would personally recommend Straight Talk to anybody looking to have a reliable phone that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

    Thanks for the feedback.
I just replaced a 5 y.o. phone 2 months ago with ATT, but their signal strength really sux, even IN Columbia. I've literally been stopped in front of their corporate headquarters, and had no signal. And they have towers everywhere?
I'll pay the penalty, just to get better service.

Btw, what phones are y'all using?

Hello, obieone and good morning to you. On our end, we haven't tried the Straight Talk smart phones yet. Just the regular phones. If you want one on the Verizon network, you will have to look up online or find a knowledgeable salesperson [a sprinkling of them do exist] who can tell you which phones work on that network. IIRC, there is a letter that the model number either starts or ends with that designates which network each particular phone works with. Last time I looked, Verizon only had two available choices in the smart phone category but please do not hold me to this. Things may have changed since I took a look a couple of months ago.
