Finally Set Up My Turntable

I have had me Pioneer PL-530 sitting on a shelf in the basement (for protection from the kids) for many years. Last week my wife and two of my children left for China (we are adopting another little girl) and I figured it would be a good time to get it out. My two boys at home with me were quite fascinated (as were the cats).

Right now I have the Ortofon OM5E mounted and would mount my Shure Tracer 1 (N97HE) if I could find my other headshell. It sounds pretty amazing with the Ortofon but I am even more taken with listening to my old vinyl collection with the clicks and pops right where I remembered them.

I'll likely pack it away again as my wife and family gets back with our daughter tonight and I know she would prefer to have the top of the cabinet for a plant stand again. The TT will come out again ... maybe in a basement rig.

BTW, anyone know of a good way to polish the acrylic dust cover?

Have to take it down?? I'd go postal without mine! Mild soap and water will clean the cover. Do not use anything abrasive.

It all depends on condition of cover. You do have to use mild abrasives with scratched or dull covers. You can get them looking like new. The links mhardy posted are good how to.

Check out an automotive store for some plastic polish for the dust cover.

I love my TT. My daughter knows better than to even look at it, other wise mine would also be in storage.

What about polish for headlight lenses? It is mostly dull but does have some scratches.

I did find that the feet on the rear are lacking suspension. I placed vibrapods underneath and have a nice improvement in clarity.

My new daughter is 4 years-old and doesn't speak English, so it may take a little time to teach her. It won't be away forever.

I also have a PL-518 that is in need of some repair (feet, and cosmetics). Otherwise it is in very good working condition.

Looks pretty safe where it's at. Why not buy the wife a new plant stand.

Because the plants will probably end up sitting on top if the turntable.

    Skrol,

I'm intrigued by your literature. Can you post the names of the Authors? I can make out Boyce, but not the rest. Thanks.
