Ok now, most you guys are married and have been for a good amount of time. WTF happens as we get older with our spouses and their sleeping habits ? I'm thinking back to when I was just married and going to bed was falling asleep in each others arms.....well, we'll leave out those other fine details.

As years roll on, something happens to our sleeping habits, be it stress, or whatever. I'll explain. For sometime now, the wife has absolutely got to have the ceiling fan directly over our bed on full balls out. On top of that, she has a portable fan on a step stool blowing right at her....and me....and the outside temp is 65 degrees even in the 50's sometimes.

Here's the visual,
I open the door to go to bed, and have to fight to get the door open. I finally get in and it's like I'm in the middle of that movie "Tornado". I'm able to slowly put one foot in front of the other while leaning forward, hands stretched out to hold on to something as my cheeks are rattling in the wind like you stuck your head out a car window doing 50 mph.....with your mouth open. The dog is just circling the room mid air.

I go to turn the fans off...."don't touch that". Um....Honey, you have it on reverse, birds are stuck to the screens. "So turn it the other way". Um...Honey, I can't sleep with my cheeks rumbling in my mouth. "Take one of my sleeping pills then". Knowing full well I don't even take aspirin for goodness sake. Leave it, and fight the wind tunnel to my side of the bed, crawl in and pull the covers over my head to block the wind....catching the dog mid air in a pillow case to reel her in.

Don't know what this is, but if it's what women call menopause, then guys let me tell you, it sucks.

Me...I can sleep on a rock and be happy.

It's always about the room. You need some acoustic panels designed to withstand hurricanes and you will sleep like a newlywed again.

Tony, in trying times like you're undergoing, you'll find that a firm hand on the helm will keep things in order.
Tomorrow night, you should stride confidently into the bedroom, snap your fingers several times to get your wife's attention, then in a firm and decisive voice announce to your wife: "Okay, toots, this is the way it's going to be from now on !".
Give her your instructions, then command her to repeat them so she can't later claim that she didn't understand them.
I am very confident that this will work. You shouldn't have any difficulties sleeping from that point on.

My wife is the same way, ceiling fan above the bed cranked, half the covers off and I'm snuggled down with the covers almost covering my head. 42 degrees out this morning.

This has been going on for a couple years now at my house. I wake up and she's sleeping somewhere next to an open window. Not only is their plumbing a mess but they have lousy on-board temp regulators as well.

I've been wanting a decent snowfall for the last couple winters so I can fabricate her a sleeping area out back. Small igloo type affair.

You "secretly" put those fans on a "timer" circuit so that they will shut off around the time your wife falls asleep?

My wife is always turning the fans off--have to save $ on the electric bill. lol

The entire "Rose" family are fan AND TV at night fanatics, me included. Tony---it might be a night-sweats deal w/your wife, Bev has been struggling with that as well lately. My whole family travels with their personal fans (LOL), and Mom definitely has to have a TV in her room.

The TV thing---well, for me anyway---is a distraction device. I think too much at night, and a TV on low (or music) at night helps me sleep better. For some people, it's the combo of fan noise AND sleeping "cold" that they are after. I like to sleep cold too, I can't stand to be hot in bed, as Bev says, I'm a "hot body" in bed---which she loves in the winter.

It took me a long time to figure out that I use a fan as a white noise machine as well as keeping me cool and having air circulating to help me breathe. Now I have a white noise machine that I turn on at night. In the winter, I can just use that rather than my fans and just leave my window open a crack at night. I can't fall asleep with out it going, nor can I sleep in a hot room.

    LMAO !!

I can only add 2 words to that...."Drive by".

I get the whole can't sleep when it's hot thing, I'm the same way, but we are talking 68 degrees in the house + fans blowing directly at you from 2 different directions. Should I just order some Penguins and call it a day ? Maybe leave Christmas decorations up in the bedroom to give her the hint ?

See now, you hit it. I get stuffed up and a massive headache, my neck hurts too. I feel like I got a hangover without the pleasure that precludes it. What to do...what to do. Marriage is all about compromise, how do I compromise on this ? A lower fan speed ? Build a Berlin Wall in-between us ? Bunk beds ? Maybe hire a Chinese lady with a paper fan to stand over her all night ?.....or me for that matter ?

Why can't they make a bed like car seats ? A king size bed with 2 different controls for heating/cooling/massaging.....with built in personal fans. Not like I'm asking for sharks with laser beams on their heads.

^^^^Wife and I were making the bed just last night after washing the bedding

As I was stuffing and old feather pillow she asked "when you gonna get rid of that pillow" Told her when she gets rid of the fan

Have a really nice down pillow with the squishy feather pillow wrap my head to drown out the f-ing fan noise and keep my ears warm

Yes it is always about sacrifice, just seems a lil' lopsided, but..."Love the One your with"

Hey, Tony. In all seriousness, while my wife and I both love a colder room while sleeping......things change throughout the night. "Somewhat" the same situation as yours. We both knew we could not deal with sleeping in separate beds [why do I feel like I'm getting WAY too personal?] and that sometimes during the night, we both get a little cold. Especially when it's colder than a witches **** wearing a brass bra outside. We have another issue as well....we would turn over and in our subconscious sleep, one of us would take the comforter with us when we rolled over and we all know how a sheet will keep you warm during a small hurricane in the room [we keep the fan that's right above the bed on medium all night long].

    The solution?

Same bed, same Bat channel, two comforters, loose the sheet. While it may make for more laundering and replacement of comforters, at ANY given moment of the night if either of us gets cold? It's just like we are teenagers again. Lift said comforter and snuggle for warmth. That's priceless. We both fall asleep so quickly again that we don't remember separating when we [even if we do] get hot again. I believe we just readjust naturally.......enough about our "bed life".

The whole point is that we are both comfortable all night long and heat from my best friend is just a lift away. Your significant other may or may not like this idea, she may hate it, she may love it. All I know is that it works for us and it has for years. My wife and I wouldn't have it any other way. Since your other half likes it cold, perhaps she can get a thin comforter while on the other hand you can get a negative degree goose down comforter that will keep a coffee warm in an igloo for days on end. Food [or sleep] for thought.....FWIW.

    Sleep well my friend.

    Tom
