I'm hoping to convince my wife to go to a classical concert in the next 6 months. Which would u rather go to?

Houston symphony playing John Williams tunes with John Williams conducting and yoyo ma playing or the Dallas symphony playing dvoraks new world symphony and then Brahms first piano concerto featuring Helene grimaud?

Dallas... John Williams, though very good and what got me interested in classical music, is really nothing more than movie soundtracks everybody has heard a zillion times.

Austin, TX? Holy smokes, is there something I didn't know about?

That's a good question, BTW. I'm torn myself.

neither one is playing in Austin.. it will be a road trip, but both are very intriguing.. I started to like Classical b/c of John William's movie scores, but Helene Grimaud playing with the DSO sounds like it would be incredible. I really enjoy her style of playing.

A basic psychological explanation I have heard is that if you have heard a specific music/melody before, or listened it for a few times, your brain will recognize that and you will enjoy it more than a specific piece that you never heard before. It definitely does work. We listen to some symphonies or concertos even via youtube before we go to a real concert, just to get a 'taste' of that music so to speak.
So based on that I would choose John Williams.

I didn't mean the players, I noticed you have a new location listed under your name.

Its ok Tom, we all get older. My memory has been shot for years and I am quite a bit younger than most of you fella's..... CoolJazz is still in Knoxville and has been pretty busy with the radio station stuff. Talked to him last week.

P.S. hope all is well with you and yours as well Tom.
