After getting my SDA 2Bs like I have priviously said Iam so emamerd w/ these speakers that I audio mute my Klipschs, and infrequently visit my other speaker kids my DCM TF 350s and ADC 303ax.So my ? is would these be considered the predacessor of the whole H/T rage w/ the dimentional effect and certainly no need for a sub woofer, the bass throw on these things can hurt a person at medium to high volumes.

Not really, ment for 2 channel but certainly can be used in a HT environment.

My take on this when looking for speakers in a system designed for both music and movies.....look for a music speaker first. Why ? Because most speakers designed for music can do HT with no problems. If you took a HT speaker and asked it to do music, some can, most try but fail. SDA's is one of those rare speakers than can do both without breaking a sweat.

Tony,I've already gave you heaping hepling of praise and I meant it. Now w/ these speakers I've heard so much about you have to mod this, Dynamt that, change out tweeters, x-overs,mortite that, that it's driving me nuts. Now let's pretend were in a court of law and out of the Polk Universe for a couple of minutes.Because I was so excited getting these SDA 2bs in what I called pristine shape except for those obligatory water stains, there is more to the story.Iam not exaggerating or editorializing a bit I did get them for $50 even now the story, these speakers because the husband passed away years ago as told to me by the daughter and not used since then could it be possible that there is absolutely no need for anything except for refinishing of the tops which was done already. Is it possible because I woke these suckers up from a 10/15 year coma and became the luckiest guy in the Polk Universe, is it possible.

This one is going to be VERY hard to convince me. I subscribe to that old gag if it ain't broke why fix it. I do get that new technology in most cases will and can be better, but with me I being a 60/yo dude who went to hundreds of loud rock concerts and not mention my former job as an alarm and fire alarm installer hearing sirens ,gongs, bells ,klaxons ac sirens and fire screamers w/ 110db at 10' blaring at me and also being certified for carrying a side arm of which I went to the range quite offen for years do you really think I would notice anything. No, clearly I'm not deaf or hearing impaired in anyway but it's all true what my ears have gone through.

No, SDA's have nothing in common or to do with HT. The exception is the SRT system which was designed/built later with ultimate HT as it's goal, but then the SRT's include more than just SDA, which in that model is electronic, and not passive like SDA's. So really, the SRT is a different animal completely and more of an evolution. It was Matt Polks statement piece, sort of a, "I'll show you what we/I can do" type piece.

Too bad you're so hard headed. You will be missing out on a HUGE performance gain. Also many times people who use that phrase don't know it's broke. How do you know these sound as they did off the showroom floor? Those caps are old and moldy and don't hold a candle to the modern stuff. The tweets are probably on their way to drying out and the RD0 tweeter is so superior to the SL2000.

Your closed mindedness and hard head will be detrimental. Sure they sound very good stock for a 20+ year old speaker, but refreshing things completely change the game.

To be blunt you'd be an idiot not to listen to this advice. You think you know better, but you absolutely don't. I was once hard headed like you about replacing the tweets. I missed out on two years of audio bliss for my stubbornness to believe a tweeter could completely transform an older speaker like my 5B's.

It's your choice in the end, but stop asking and talking about it if you aren't going to do it. Enjoy them the way they are and shut yer pie hole about it.

    LW,
As far as the mods go for your SDA's, yes....well worth it. You have to remember the age of these puppies in stock form, you think they sound good now, you'd crap your flat hat as Russ used to say when you get the crossovers redone. Many threads here documenting the before and after on various SDA'S, read up....save your bottle caps. We haven't steered you wrong yet have we ?

Not so far,g-d damn you guys are very convincing. So forget the cable nonsense for now RDOs @ $ 48 a piece and even if I did piecemeal @1 a month this I could swing in a month or 2.I still have to recover from replacing my tv which took a nice chunk out my ready car fix it fund.

Don't rush into it I have been putting 50 smackers aside every month since last year once I have enough together I want to TL my CRS+'s and 2B's so I 'am being patient and dream about the day I own a few pair of TL'ed (is that a word?). I figure since I own 3 pair that are able to get the TL treatment I will need a small fortune.

Chill out dude. Enjoy your speakers and upgrade when you have the money and you're ready. Stock SDAs sound OK. But modding them will give you that much more. The first experience anyone has with these is the SDA effect which for some is a blow away moment because it's so "new", "unique". Then as time passes and you get used to that you start to wonder, "how much more would I hear if I pulled the trigger", and then you turn into the poor sobs that most of "us" here are, forever tweaking until they FINALLY lay you to rest in YOUR very own SDA cabinet forever! lol

CNH, 1st What the f%#k I'm doing up now I have no idea but I will answer your 1st reply to me.No I will not sell my other 2 pairs of speakers for a few reasons.1.I like variety and this affords that.2. The ADC303ax remind so fondly of the famous east coast sound ala AR,Advent ,KLH,Rectiinear which I grew up w/3.As for the DCM time frame 350s they also are a totally way different sounding speaker that I just got into that unless I upgrade the TF ladder or to the vaunted Time Window series these also will be staying.4.I'm always looking for vintage speakers and if some deal like I got before was to come by then I would consider Ohm/Walsh 3xos or Vandersteen Sig 2 ce.You by now have probably seen my room and how it's set up.Everything has it's place,I'm not into clutter or stacking at all and if push came to shove I would move out said favorites for even better models. For now it's a saving I go and of course I take alls advice after I stop rambling for a minute or 2. Lew

F#%K me just any where ,I knew I had another ?.Dyamat firstly would be the way cheapest thing to do. There's a Home Depot a minute from me and I have tin snips and heavy shears so tools are no problem. So the ? is, once the original seal is broken by removing the drivers and passives is this in any way detremental if put back w/o doing ANYTHING else.

You can buy a roll of Armacell at HD for about $8. Cut 1/2" wide strips to use to make new speaker gaskets. The adhesive side goes on the speaker basket, not the front baffle.
