Still issues with RX-V667

So I just got my order of brand new HDMI cables, a few optical cables, and a digital coax cable.

First I tried, again, connecting the Xbox 360 via HDMI to HDMI input 1 on the 667 and then HDMI out on the 667 to my TV. Nothing. I get sound through the stereo but no picture on the TV, the TV just says no signal. Yes, the TV is on the right input.

Second I tried connecting the Xbox 360 straight to the TV with HDMI and then using an optical cable from the 360 to the optical port under AV1 on the 667 and, no sound. Yes, the 667 is on the AV1 input.

What am I doing wrong?

You have to set up each input on the receiver. Did you read the manual ? Did you set up the receiver at all ?

I have no manual, just the receiver. I bought it from a business that gave me just the receiver and FM antenna. No manual, box, YPAO mic, etc.

All analog inputs work just fine.

I'm off to go pick up some Monitor 4's from Mystery, I will check the thread when I get back. Hopefully I'm not going to go buy some rear surrounds for nothing, as they won't work without a 5.1 capable connection

The owners manual for your AVR is located at Yamaha.com.

I checked out the manual online and tried everything it said in the troubleshooting for no video. Even reset it to factory defaults. According to the manual I should at least be able to press the "on screen" button on the remote to get to it's settings even without an input, nada.

I finally got something to work though. HDMI to TV and digital coax from TV to receiver. It's not how I wanted to have it setup, I'd rather not have the sound going through the TV at all, but at least it's working.

No sound to rears. Even if I have an amp plugged into it's front L/R preouts its own internal amp should still be on, right? Both the Xbox and the TV are set to 5.1. I should just go back to 2 channel analog, this is crazy...

Those have to be turned on. You can turn off all the channels pretty much in the config. For a long time I only ran front left/right/center and turned the rears off. Please read the manual all the way through, it will enlighten you.

Okay, I spent a long time reading the manual top to bottom of PDF. I did a full reset on everything.

HDMI out still does not display anything. I then tried component video out and behold, I have a picture! Now I still can't run my HDMI devices through the receiver but at least I can mess around with the settings. I have all channels and inputs working correctly now, besides HDMI. There is nothing I can do to get it working. I tried multiple cables, multiple inputs on both the receiver and the TV, and messed around with every setting related to HDMI and video. Oh well. At least I have a way to work around this issue and it's working like I want.

Once I got the onscreen menu working all my problems, besides what I believe to be a broken HDMI output, are gone.

Tomorrow when I can be a little louder than now I will mess around with it some more. I see the YPAO microphones are going for around $30 on ebay, how much of a difference will this make vs. manually entering everything in provide such as distance of speakers to your ear, etc. ?

Nighfall, this probably won't help but I will chime in anyway.I have the predacessor the 665 basically the same avr and besides the x-box hook up I do just about the same set up as you. It's sounds a bit convoluted but it does work for my needs. 1 HDMIcable from tv input 1 directly into the cable box , 2nd Hdmi cable from tv into the Yamaha ouput HDMI port to pick up Yapo and I think bl/ray. I also either run a Toslink Optical into AV1 OR AV 4 for audio or an RCA cable into audio 1 or audio2. I personally do this so I can listen to tunes of my chosing of any source and have silent tv at the same time.Me being not from this century will be no help w/ an X-BOX but if you temp eliminate that it just might work if all of your settings and inputs are correct.Oh the mic system does work it gives fairly exact distances from where speakers are positioned, subwoofer levels and balancing all your speakers the way it fits your taste and or room and all sorts of levels and features that are a PINTA to do w/ the front read out manually.

If the HDMI inputs don't work, why would you spend more money on a mic ? Getting a receiver that works should be your first priority.
