LSi left me wanting more...
More time for listening to my music, that is.
I took a gamble and bought a pair of LSi9's without getting a chance to listen to them first. I've been doing a lot of research and auditioned a few other brands (Klipsch, Vienna, Sonus Faber) but none of them had the sound I prefer. The Klipsch and Sonus were too forward, the Vienna's were close but cost a bit more than I was looking to spend. I'm not saying that any of these weren't very good speakers, they just weren't what I was looking for.
Well, frustrated in my search, I ordered the LSi9's figuring I could return them if I didn't like them. That, fortunately, was not the case. I love them!!! They have tremendous detail, great mids, strong bass...in fact I'm now thinking I may not need to hook up my sub.
What is amazing right now is the gear I am running these on. I read all the recommendations that the LSi series needs clean power. I actually ordered an amp already. But since the speakers came first, I decided to hook them up to my old H/K Receiver (60wpc @ 6ohm). I was thinking at best I would be able to break in the speakers while I waited for the real power to arrive.
The fact of the matter is they sound fantastic...even with what should be less-than-adequate power. I can hardly imagine what they will sound like when my separate amp arrives.

Congrats Sully! The LSi9 are excellent speakers. Just wait until the amp arrives. The bass will blow you away. I didn't even use my sub most of the time I was using the LSi.

Sully,
That's great!! I went through the same thing when I ordered my Lsi's. I don't plan to upgrade for a long time. -
same here...was looking into B&W's as well as MonitorAudio speakers...then I went for broke and got the LSi9's...these puppies are here to stay...See the Music, Feel the Music, Be the Music...

I keep having people come over and ask "Where's your sub?" LSi9s are a sleeper speaker, for sure.
They crave clean, accurate power, not really lots of it.
Congrats! Go listen!LSi 9/C/FX

Subwoofers can be used in music situations, why not? A properly tuned and setup subwoofer is able to blend in naturally with the sound.LSi 9/C/FX

Subs can be used, but I haven't heard one yet that recreates bass as it was recorded. There's too much over-emphasis. Very, very few musical instruments can reach below 40Hz, a good set of tower speakers can reproduce bass notes in this range, in a more realistic manner--of course some folks are bass-junkies; subs just aren't for me.
I can understand their use with small bookshelf monitors or a satellite type set-up; but thats about it. If your current bookshelf speaker dips into the 40Hz range, I don't see a need for a sub.
Of course this is all listener preference.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2
