So sometimes I do stupid things, like gamble. Except I don't gamble in a casino or race track, I do something dumb like buy a "as-is, for parts" receiver off eBay. There was an SC-1222-K that was pretty much brand new for $155 + 40 shipping, but it had a flashing MCACC with unknown history. I figured, buy it and try the 3 different resets that Pioneer has in the manual. A week later (today) it shows up at my door so I wait until everyone goes to sleep (I know, I know) and I try it out.

The Power + < arrow did not work, as did the Power + Standard/Surround button. Uh oh.... those are the ones I know. I'm about to crap myself for wasting $200 in this gamble. Wife is going to shank me in my sleep.

Then I try down arrow + Zone 2..... nothing for 5 seconds... then at 6 seconds it came to life! I had it factory reset and swapped it out with the SC-35. Whew.....

HDMI switching works, all 5 of the channels I had hooked up worked. Sub out worked. Put on a movie and cranked it up. Sounds good without calibration on the Focals.

Anyways, I got really lucky on this gamble, but hey I got basically a SC-61 without amber lights for $200 give or take. If I get a year out of it, it will be worth the money. Now I have another head unit for a 5 channel amp. Before today I had more 5 channel amps than receivers/processors. Now the real question... where should I put it?

I had the same receiver. Newegg usually sells them for $499.99 new. I returned it because Costco had the SC-1522-k, which is the same as SC-65, for $599.99. I've been very happy with this receiver. It runs super cool compared to my Onkyo, which can fry eggs if I wanted to.

I recommend the iContolAV2012 app for it. It's awesome.

I can't beat it for $200 shipped. Likely it will go upstairs to the unused living room.

This thing is still going strong. And just for **** and giggles I hooked up the newest pair of LSi25s I scored from Kurt300 to it to see what it'd do in my bedroom. I knew ahead of time it doesn't have enough power, but I've been preaching for so long that you really need external amps for LSi speakers and now I needed to hear first hand why. At low volumes it's unbearable. There's no presence whatsoever. As you approach -20 and -10db on the receiver it sounds OK, but it's really flat. But it's nothing I didn't already know, but now I have the first hand experience to back up the claims. I wheeled these massive things from the bedroom to the theater with the other pair and they'll do surround duty, replacing my Polk in walls. Those will be moved to surround back. The Carver 200x5 is really being wasted on those in walls anyways.
